I am 4 weeks post op. My stitches still haven’t completely dissolved and I still have scabs on the incision? Is that normal ??? Also, how long before I can get in a pool. I am leaving for Jamaica on the 28th. Hoping to be able to get in the pool at 5.5 weeks. Any help would be appreciated.

For me it was no pool and no hot tub for two weeks. Check with your Dr.

A few days ago at my 6 week post op activation I asked about my resorbable/dissolvable stitches. I was told that my incision has three layers of stitches, two internal and one external. Apparently it's a technique used to help prevent infection; I don't know if all surgeons do it that way. I was also told that they can take between 6 and 12 months to fully break down. I assume that's for the internal ones as the outer layer is getting close to healed over now. I still had redness and some very small scabbing at 4 weeks and beyond. I'm completely paranoid about infection so have sent photos off a couple of times, but the answer has consistently been that it looks normal and everything is fine.

However if you are concerned it is always best to contact your own medical team.

I asked a few weeks ago about swimming and they said not yet, we'll let you know.
I forgot to follow up the other day so I've just emailed that question.

man, for me there's no way I'd get into a public pool if there was still scabbing on the incision. And for some reason a public pool in Jamaica sounds even worse. Don't let your desire to take a swim turn into an infection that risks the remainder of your sex life. IMO, not remotely worth it.

Showering, bathing in your own tub, sure. Public pools or the ocean in a sketchy country, nope.
