Also, I have to skip the 3 and 9 o'clock spots due to having prominent veins at those locations. So a little past 3 or 9 o'clock. Or above 3 and 9 o'clock. My girth seems small compared to the measurements I've read on here so I just can't imagine trying a 1/2" needle. How deep does the corpora cavernosa lie beneath the skin? Surely, pressing the 5/16 needle in and causing a dimple is deep enough?
Let's talk dick geometry. This is totally unscientific and not based on any credible theory but my wild musings. But this convo prompted me to do some measurements. Almost all discussion of girth is based on circumference which is close to meaningless when addressing needle depth, more so when r measurement is erect when we are talking about a flaccid injection.. Flaccid, my boy is 1½ inches, measured side-to-side (like I assume most are, mine is oval shaped, more wide than tall). Analyzing the internal geometry and just to apply some scope to the hypothesis, I'll say that a generous allotment would be ¼ inch for the urethra on the bottom and nerves on the top; this leaves 1¼ inch for the two cavernosa combined (plus tunica and skin, etc) left and right side or ⅝ inch each.
If my hypothesis holds, then from either left or right, there is ⅝ inch from the exterior to the internal end of the cavernosa. A 5/16 inch needle would end right at the center of the cavernosa. So for me and my dimensions, I consider 5/16 to be perfect.
I concede there are a lot of holes in this theoretical approach, but it gives me a notional understanding of where to start in needle length selection.
