Anyone have a AMS 700 without RTEs?

Postby BostonJazzman » Wed Apr 16, 2025 12:12 pm

As a new prospective implant patient, I am doing my research AND I have
understood that it is "better" to minimize the use of Rear Tip Extenders
(RTEs) if possible.

Ok.

It makes sense becauseI guess you have a higher risk of a future revision
surgery if use RTEs. Although I am sure there are many reasons a surgeon
would decide to use an RTE.

However in my research I also have only found Coloplast devices implanted
without any RTEs.

True?

So I was wondering:

"Does anyone have an AMS 700 implanted without any RTEs?"

You see as an "older guy" I am assuming the recommended implant for me
will be an AMS device. (referencing Dr Clavell's videos)

I should request a Coloplast device to minimize the potential need for RTEs
and future revisions.

Just wondering.

Or am I overthinking this?

Thank you

I don't know if your theory is right, or if you read it somewhere, I had a titan 22 without rte, I did a replacement because I had been oversized and the tips were too far forward in the glans and hurt, he replaced my titan with ams cx 21 without rte this too
56, DE since 2010, the pills worked at high doses not well, on 01/23/23 titan one touch 22, Dr. Gabriele Antonini, Replacement from titan to cx 21 with ms pump on 04/03/2025, today I am almost 60 years old and have various pathologies, testosterone

Yes, I have the AMS 700 LGX 21cm with no RTEs. When doing my own research I asked my surgeon if he often used RTEs.
The answer was yes, and he did explain under what circumstances, but unfortunately I've now forgotten the reasons.
I suspect it's often just a sizing issue after they have they have taken the distal and proximal measurements on the table.
So I assume they would try and fit a standard length cylinder if possible, but almost no one is standard (except me apparently ).
I know he was very pleased the morning after my procedure when he told me that he was able to fit the maximum size LGX without RTEs.
70 y.o. married from Sydney Oz. PC and nerve sparing RRP 2022, but still profound ED since. Tried pills, injections, shockwave therapy, VED. Finally implanted Mar 6 2025 AMS 700 LGX 21cm x 12mm, no RTEs, MS pump, Penoscrotal.
Now dealing with recovery.

I have a CX 21cm with no RTE's. There is a member here that got a CX 21cm no RTE's from my same dr about 6 to 8 weeks after I did.

RTE's all depend upon what your measurements taken during surgery are. We both had wanted an LGX. But we measured at 21cm long. My dr will not use 3cm of RTE's on an LGX. So he then uses a CX 21cm.

AMS CX 21 without RTE here. My doctor said he "custom" sized the tubing" to allow the pump to get to the bottom of the scrotum. I do have a pretty long and large scrotum. I think the RTE do help with making sure you don't have a high pump since the tubing length is fixed for most implants. I think you have to leave it up to your surgeon since it is a balancing act.

in addition to dr. clavel videos on the topic, my surgeon wrote this after I submitted this similar question many months ago. hopefully can provide some clarity as well.

BostonJazzman;

Older guy here at 65. My measurement was 21.5 cm, so I got an AMS 700 CX 21cm with .5cm RTE, which is about as close as you get to zero without being there. Surgery was March 12 though, so I don't have any long term experience to offer.
I can tell you that fully pumped the tips come to almost exactly Mid Glans, which my reading seems to be right where you want it. I think this means I am "right sized," so that minimal RTE is doing it's job.
65 Years. ED started mid 2000's. No Intercourse since late wife's hysterectomy in 2009. Smoking (quit in 2011) Diabetes, Inactivity.
10cm proximal, 11.5 cm distal
May 12 received 21 cm AMS 700 CX + .5 cm RTE.

Yes, no RTEs here. 21cm AMS 700CX. Closing in on one year post-op and last measured about 1/2 inch shorter than pre-op. I suspect it will be 1/4 inch shorter at the one-year mark as I keep cycling at least twice a day. That's what my uro said it would likely end up, prior to surgery. So no big deal! No pain in cycling since about 2 months post-op. I can leave it fully engaged for hours. Delayed climax is an issue, but slowly easing up.
ED worsened over 25 years, likely VL. Went through pills and injections, and results faded over time. Implant AMS 700CX, 21 cm, no RTE, on 6/3/24.
