Ephi82 wrote:Hello,

This forum has been a godsend as I considered an implant as a solution and prepared myself to go through and get it done. Incredibly helpful, and I hope to give back by sharing my experience.

First message: post op pain is not as bad as you think it’s going to be. I’ve taken a minimal amount of narcotic pain meds, using mostly ibuprofen and Tylenol, but the best pain management was from the large bags of frozen peas that I have kept on my crotch these first few days. My pain is mostly from one of my testes that must have got banged around a bit, and the area where the reservoir was inserted up into my pelvis near the bladder. In general I am swollen in and around my package, and this is uncomfortable, but not overwhelming. Interesting that I now have a 3-4 inch flaccid penis when my entire life it was half that at best!

This is very important: my penis does not hurt at all and I expected it to hurt the most!

I’m four days post op with a AMS 700cx three piece implant done by Dr Andrew Kramer here in beautiful Cape Cod MA. Kramer is easy to talk with, available to you as a patient, and he’s done a huge number of these procedures. In addition, the staff at Cape COD Hospital are among the very best I have ever dealt with, and this is coming from someone who spent his career in surgical devices and technologies.

I’m keep my history brief. I am 66 years young. I’m active and healthy and am in a great relationship with a kind, caring, supportive and very sexual woman. Our sex was great pre surgery, even with my ED, and we expect it to be super great when we add routine inter course to the mix. I feel so blessed to have this great woman in my life!

I started having ED in my 40’s and I tried all the available solutions which worked until they didn’t. I made the decision to get implanted after several recent years of painful and ultimately futile use of cialis and trimix.

I had surgery on last Friday morning and was home in my bed by 1pm. I was sent home with a catheter. Some people get bladder and urethra spasms with a catheter, and I’m one of them. I requested and received two meds for that, one to relieve spasms and the other that relieves the post catheter burning sensation when peeing after the catheter. These meds worked! I was able to remove the catheter the next morning with the support of my girlfriend. Weird, but very easy!

I highly suggest allowing yourself to stay in bed, on your back, with a bag of frozen peas on your crotch for the first 3-4 days. This keeps the swelling down and allows your body to regain strength lost to the stressors of having a surgery. You don’t need to push yourself!

I am four days post op, out of my bed, but reclining on my couch writing this. I am alternating ibuprofen and Tylenol for discomfort and I have been sleeping pretty good. I can walk around the house without discomfort, but sitting down and getting up needs to be done slowly and gently. Things are tender and swollen, but this has improved a bit each day. I’m glad that I don’t have to get into or out of a car right now, but could do it if I had to, and expect that I will be willing to do it later in the week, or early next.

I’m happy to answer any questions, and I’ll add to my story as my recovery continues.

Congratulations, sir.

Glad to have you on team Bionic.

Thanks for the encouragement! I know I need to be patient, but 8 weeks seems like a long time!

When did folks start to feel no soreness in non sexual situations? Im still sore enough to need 600mg ibuprofen and some icing at one week post op.

For most of us somewhere between 4-6 months, although this can vary pretty significantly.
Some still are sore at a year.

Chuck, thank you! in your signature it seems to say you were pretty much back to “normal” at 7 weeks. Is that the case? How long were you still a bit swollen and sore?

Ephi82, oh no, I didn't even start cycling until 7 weeks. I had severe edema (past the knees), swelling (like a baseball+) and significant hematoma. In fact I'm over 2 months post-op and still feel some hematoma in my scrotum - it's been interfering with locating and using the deflate button. The "no discomfort" and "new normal" in my signature line are place markers for the future. As I read your journal, your recovery has been way better than mine !

I’m at day 11 post op. I am steadily improving I think. Took a nice walk on the beach yesterday and I am able to drive and get around doing some errands.

My most significant pain and soreness has been when sitting on a chair upright. Especially the initial sit, or when standing up. ( getting into the car seat is also an adventure. I’m still taking Tylenol and ibuprofen.

Swelling has diminished significantly, with the majority of it still centered around and under the base of my penis. I’m assuming that’s where the cylinder tips are imbedded and anchored under the pelvic bone. I started to do a light lymphatic massage a few days ago around where the swelling is and it has helped significantly.

I have one remaining source of pain and that is around the pump and my testes. The pump feels pretty rock hard to palpate, ( no squeezing yet!) and it kind of bangs into my nuts, making them a little sore. I’m assuming that’s where it’s going to take more time for my body to accept the pump and build a little scar tissue capsule around it?

The last thought is around my new to me penis. Being a major “grower” , I never had to worry about how to fit it in my clothes. Now, I have at least 4” of flaccid cock to deal with and it’s going to take a little time to figure out what position to put it in for most comfort, a problem that I’m happy to deal with!

Ephi, you're doing great at 11 days, I still had problems sitting in a hard chair at 4 weeks. I did have soreness in my scrotum but I don't remember that the two brothers were upset about the third brother moving in, even though I don't have a large scrotum. I was concerned when the doc showed me how big the pump was, that he could get that thing in there.

Yeah, I was a grower and not a shower too, I had to find new jeans and sweatpants to accommodate the new flaccid bulge. My wife is really conscious about my bulge showing, so I had to find longer shirts and loose fitting pants that wouldn't show too much. ;) She's not as conscious now after 3 years, but every once in a while she'll say something.
On the sweatpants, find dark colors, black and dark blue which shows less, definitely don't wear light gray, which will look like you have a hard on when you really don't.

Keep healing up,
Sworks

I wanted to pass on something I learned here. There is a product called Separatec underwear that is incredibly soothing and comfortable to wear post surgery.

This underwear has separate sections to hold your sore penis and sore nut and pump sack. In particular, the pouch for the nut sack is very supportive, but not constricting. It helps to keep you from sitting directly on your sore pump, and keeps things from getting crushed between your thigh and groin.

If I had to do this again, I would start wearing these immediately after the bandages and wrap came off. ( I actually just started wearing them day 12 post op)

Ephi82;
Something that I have found that has made a big difference in the sitting game is a Coccyx Cushion, which has a void in about the right place. You can even put your ice pack or frozen peas right in the void, which as I said, is at about the right place.

I got a foam one from Wal Mart, and Amazon has a bunch, including inflatables.
