6 weeks post op and still hurting

Postby Ddoubles » Sun Apr 13, 2025 11:29 pm

Hello friends,
Tomorrow I will be exactly six weeks post surgery with the infrapubic approach, 16mm titan. I’m STILL in pain. I was doing good at week four and did some garage cleaning one day about two weeks ago and since then I feel my re cooperation has taken a major step back. I didn’t do anything crazy strenuous.
I can’t sit or stand more than an hour and I have constant pain. No signs of infection. I’m not cycling much because I still have trouble deflating and finding the double knobs to push in. When i saw my dr. He deflated it and said all good, but it literally is still hard sticking straight out and is uncomfortable. Luckily for once, I’m small so it’s not real noticeable.
I’m starting to wonder if there’s some issue with placement, or if my body is rejecting the implant.. my recovery doesn’t seem normal. I have an appt with my overbooked dr for a month from now. (Kaiser). I asked to see someone different but he’s the only implant surgeon at this hospital.
Sometimes sitting down I feel like I’m sitting on a tennis ball. I have burning, aching, poking, stabbing. My penis is also quite sensitive like another poster put, feels like a sunburn when I touch it.
The pump partially protrudes and can be easily felt between the base of my penis and the balls but the dr. Said it shouldn’t be an issue as long as the pump is accessible.
I’m feeling really bummed out and upset, but hopeful still.Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi Ddoubles, tomorrow I will be exactly 6 weeks too, what type of implant do you have? I also had an infrapubic, mine is a replacement, usually with an infrapubic you start pedaling after a week, I started pedaling after a week, both with the first implant and now after having the replacement, tell me something more, what brand and model of implant do you have?

Do the tubes bother you between your testicles? And between your groin and thigh?

Six weeks is not that long out of surgery, but I feel for you. I hurt for months due to a bad reaction to the antibiotic.
Did doc give you any pain meds? Take them as needed to control any pain. Has he cleared you to bathe? A hot bath is wonderful to ease soreness. My other trick was Aspercream, a small dab smeared along my shaft eased soreness almost all day. If you are tender a children's sock (with the elastic cut off) worn like a condom helps.

Everyone heals at a different rate and everyone experiences pain differently. First off, are you taking Tylenol or Ibupropherin or Naproxen? Those can help a LOT. At this point also, heat can help alleviate pain a bit. I wasn't in constant pain, but it wasn't as comfortable or natural as it is not for me (week 17/18) and I bet in another 6 months it'll be even better.

I'm not surprised that you have some pain in your cruss area (underside / pelvis) as thats where things are poking where nothinig was meant to poke, and its also possible the implant is a bit thicker than your biology. Which implant did you get and what size / RTEs? What size were / are you?

Best of luck!
48yo gay married male - Size before cancer / ED = 7.5" x 6.25" (current 5.5x5.2). AMS 700 CX implanted 12/9/24. 18cm + 1cm RTE and 18cm + 2cm RTE.

Ddoubles, since the problems you describe came after some specific physical activity, I believe you are right in being evaluated by a qualified Dr as soon as possible, even if the initial evaluation needs to be with a different, but qualified, Dr.

That said, and FWIW, I had an unusually difficult recovery also but mine was specifically with my scrotum. It swelled up to what seemed like baseball size, large amounts of hematoma tissue (blood clot) around the base of the penis, the hematoma interfered with accessing the deflate button, sitting always felt like painfully sitting on something unless I reached down and adjusted, and the capsule forming around the pump bulb adhered to the inside of the bottom of my scrotum creating more pain every time I moved. My Dr said my recovery was more difficult than most. Because of that I didn't start cycling until almost 8 weeks.

Now I'm at week 11 and even though it took longer, the issues above have resolved 90+% on their own. It just took more time. I hope you don't have any complications from the physical activity, and I hope your issues resolve on their own like mine did.

Thanks everyone for the info.
I had the coloplast titan implant. 16mm. Here's the thing, i've always been small. My anatomy is a bit different. I have a pretty big bulge in my crotch area. Not sure what it's called, imagine putting a grapefruit in your crotch and that's what I look like from the side profile. In my good years, i would say I was just below 5". I remember with a good hand grip the tip of the head would stick out. After years of ED, i think I shrunk to about 4". Post surgery, my doctor removed the bandaging and had me inflated all the way. I was floored when i saw i was about 3". I asked him about it, and didn't get much response. I asked him will i get my length back and he said that's what is, but i'm healing. After my follow up, he told me i don't need to cycle it, and that using a vacuum device wouldn't help. My last visit, he "deflated" me but I'm still walking around with the little guy poking straight out. It's uncomfortable and it's hard for me to believe its the way its suppose to stay. The base is firm, i could literally have sex with it "deflated", its just the head is not hard. I've tried several times to deflate it more with no success. I think inflation make the head hard and increases my girth to 5-1/4" which i believe its always been.
Back on topic though, I emailed my dr. and told him about my continual pain, standing and sitting and he prescribed me 15mg pills of meloxicam. I guess its suppose to help with swelling and pain. I hope it works. I will definitely try the aspercream as well.
I also believe I have whats called a seroma? My incision was at least 3.5" long which also surprised me. For the first couple weeks, i literally thought it was part of the implant it felt so hard. Doctor said that should go away, and for the most part, I think it's gone down quite a bit, but not completely. There's some other issues, but I guess I'll save them for another day.
