Erosion issues.

Hey all, first time posting here.

I'm 51 and I've been on pills for the last 20 years, they can get me hard but I can't maintain it so I've been seriously thinking about getting an implant.

Everything seems so overwhelming to me at this point since I've not discussed this with even my PCP. One of the things that I've come across is the issue of erosion and how it happens more often with the malleable style implant.

Has anyone experienced this? What had to be done to fix it (if anything)? I'm really looking at getting the inflatable style but I've not ruled out the malleable yet so I'm looking for any input.

Also, I've started a list of questions to ask the urologist once I find one, are there any that I should be sure to ask?

"The rate of erosion with IPP and MPP has also been studied. The AUA ED Guidelines reviewed the rate of erosion for MPP and IPP in 7 and 20 studies, respectively. The rate of erosion for IPP was on average 2.5% (range 0–6.5%) and for a MPP was on average 4.1% (range 0–17.5%)."

Erosion can occur due to trauma, implant oversizing, incorrect implant positioning, or extreme/rough handling by patient without care such as using lubricants.

It can be fixed by removing the implant, allowing tissue healing, administering antibiotics if the implant becomes exposed externally, sending the patient home and scheduling a revision surgery after it's healed. Tissue recovery typically requires 2-3 months, depending on the erosion’s severity.

Yes, size loss and a fibrosed corpora making subsequent surgeries somewhat challenging.

LastHope, is the size loss from lack of cycling ? Could that be offset by VED during healing ?

There are guys on this site who have experienced erosion with their malleables...as well with IPP's, it really goes back to your surgeon. I would go talk with a urologist that is listed as a Center of Excellence and locate one in your area to talk with, they can tell you the pro's and con's and probably have some demo units to look at. There are guys on this site who have experienced erosion with their malleables...as well with IPP's, it really goes back to your surgeon. I would go talk with a urologist that is listed as a Center of Excellence and locate one in your area to talk with, they can tell you the pro's and con's and probably have some demo units to look at. For what it's worth, this is also what my surgeon (Dr. Levine) told me during my consultation. He said the risks between the two models were virtually the same. He stressed that the main risk of the surgery is infection. When I brought up the other issues, he sort of shook them off and said that, again, the main concern is infection, the others aren't really that material if you have a good surgeon.

I wrote a list myself I will try to find if you don't find what you need there.

This is a great way to start. It helps you build confidence in the decisions you make. For me, it relieved a lot of stress as I felt that whatever happen I made my decisions on my best effort and research I could put together. There will always be aspects you can't control. I accepted that.

yeah ask the people who push ipp about the bad man malleables .
according to doctors who do more malleables, the the erosion rate is 1 or 2 % IF it is oversized to much . Ask any one on here with a malleable if the boogeyman erosion is a problem for them . then ask about pump failures , lines leaking . pin holes in cylinders in the "superior" ipp guys .

Yes, lack cycling for IPP or removal of a cylinder for MPP. VED may be used only after damaged tissues have healed. Attached are examples of tissue damage requiring repair. The risk is very low for a healthy male with good circulation/tissue health and when the surgery is done well.
