My wife had menopause induced in her 40's to treat endometriosis. While that worked like a champ, she started developing UTI's more frequently. I asked her about this, and she said there are several things to help prevent them. These are her suggestions not mine:
Stay hydrated, this not only dilutes bacterial counts, but allows you to have adequate pee to flush out the urethra.
Pee before and after sex, but definitely after - and pee often.
After menopause her doctor prescribed her vaginal estrogen, this helps with not only maintaining elasticity to prevent tears, but also maintains a healthy vaginal bacterial balance.
Beware of antibiotics and only use them if absolutely needed, this should be a joint discussion with the doctor...as some doctors will prescribe them just to appease the patient. You don't want to develop an antibiotic resistant bacteria.
Then she said stay hydrated again.
We have sex often, and when I am not around she plays with lots of toys. Hell, she uses toys even when I am around. That said, it's been a long time since she had a UTI, and that was likely due to having a cath placed during a surgery, so I think she has a good routine down.
