1. does a softer implant expand more then a new stiffer implant?
2. Would a 80% inflated stiff implant have less girth then a 80% inflated soft implant?
3. Do softer implants make the dog ears (if you have them) less pronounced?
4. Does a softer implant take more pumps then a stiff implant to hit 100% inflated?
5. Does a softer implant have a better flaccid hang then a stiff one?

Re: What happens when the implant gets softer over time?
interesting questions which basically come back to the age on going debate of coloplast titan versus AMS CX versus AMS LGX.
Basically, the softer implant you refer to is the LGX and the harder implant is the titan. The CX is in between.
so, in summary, if you want to have a great nice looking flacid, go with the AMS LGX; but many of us did not get the implant so that we could have a great flacid.
This titan versus AMS debate will rage on and there do indeed seem to be pluses for either device. It is common for me to read about guys who love their AMS and would never move over to a titan if offerred. Similarly, it is common to read that guys with titan will not move over to AMS if offerred. Frankly, the only people who can really chime in with educated opinions on this debate would be those men who have had both.

ANSWER: the AMS LGX expands in length and diameter. BUT, for any given patient, it starts at a shorter length and narrower diameter than the titan and it ends at a diameter smaller than the titan (18mm diameter versus 21mm)1. does a softer implant expand more then a new stiffer implant?
ANSWER: NO. 80% titan is already at near max diameter, it is just slightly pliable in stiffness. 80% LGX is still in the process of length girth expanding, so it is down on both size and rigidity when only at 80%. The LGX does not hit full length and girth until it is at 100% inflation.2. Would a 80% inflated stiff implant have less girth then a 80% inflated soft implant?
ANSWER: yes, Titan has dog ears, AMS LGX does not and CX might have mild dog ears maybe3. Do softer implants make the dog ears (if you have them) less pronounced?
ANSWER: probably yes, the AMS pumping bulb has bigger volume than the Titan so that suggest fewer pumps for AMS, also, the titan cylinders are bigger volume, so by definition more pumps to get that volume of fluid will be needed4. Does a softer implant take more pumps then a stiff implant to hit 100% inflated?
ANSWER: yes, absolutely. The old saying is that the AMS is a softer soft and the Titan is a harder hard. The hang with titan seems to be a problem if you are less than six inches5. Does a softer implant have a better flaccid hang then a stiff one?

Re: What happens when the implant gets softer over time?
There is a difference in the firmness of the Titan cylinders compared to the AMS700LGX cylinders. Yet, I did a mutual show and tell with man who had a Titan and we could not fell any discernible difference in the hardness of our fully pumped erections. In fact, my wife and I prefer my LGX to be pumped about 75-80% for our mutual comfort. I know for men whose penis size is larger a Titan provides a lot more stability, but aside from that the AMS gets more hard than I need.
Whenever I hear about anything about the implant getting softer with time it has always been the bulb for the pump. You did not mention that. At first for many of us it feels like a rock. Gradually it loosens up and becomes easier to use. At the same time as the penis fully recovers from the major trauma of the surgery, it becomes more pliable and accepting of stretching out to its maximum potential. To my knowledge it is the hardness of the cylinders stretching the Penile tissues that cause the expansion, not the implant getting softer as it ages.

I am 64 and had ED from a VL. Implanted by Dr. Ronald Anglade in Atlanta on 9/18/17. I have an AMS700LGX 21 cm via a Penoscrotal incision. Very happy with results. 6" soft and 6 3/4” x 5 5/8” hard.

Re: What happens when the implant gets softer over time?
Thanks for the thorough answer answer guys. I did not mean in comparison between the models though, what I should have said is comparing a brand new implant to a older used implant. A brand new implant is stiffer then a older broken in implant correct? I have better sensation at 90% inflated but I have better girth at 100% inflated (I have a brand new implant). The 100% is unnaturally stiff imo and also I can feel the proximal ends digging into my crus but I like the girth of it at 100%. I want to know a brand new implant would have less girth and be stiffer at 90% compared to a broken in implant that has been used for several years. Also, does a older (softer) implant have more capacity for expansion then a newer (stiffer) implant?
Ok I see what your saying Gregg. So it’s not that the cylinders are getting softer it’s that the pump is softer. For some reason I would think the pumping because easier because the cylinders are giving less resistance after the implant has been used for a while.
If it is that fact that the hardness of the cylinders is what stretches the penis of time and not that older softer cylinders can expand further then new ones, that would indicate that in order to grow (reclaim lost length/girth) someone would have to pump to max and leave it inflated for a period of time rather then just use their implant at 90% for shorter more natural increments of time correct?
What is the reason for men reporting to have a better looking flaccid over the lifespan of the implant?

Re: What happens when the implant gets softer over time?
Any of us with implants can probably only guess answers to your questions or tell you our personal experience. I can tell you our personal experiences are widely varied. Even the information one doctor tells their patients varies from what another one tells their patients.
My doctor said I would notice changes in the first two years. During that time the body is healing, adjusting to the new equipment, and any changes from cycling. At first my flaccid was at about 3:30 and now it hangs down at about 5:00. My personal feeling is when I first got the implant my penis was tight from surgery and it was shorter. My lifelong flaccid length was very close to the 5 3/4” length I have now. Just prior to implant surgery my flaccid was 2” under the most ideal conditions and sometimes fully inverted with just the glans showing. That was the result of having a Prostatectomy, Peyronies, and atrophy from lack of firm erections for a long period. So, my impression is as my penis has returned to its natural length it probably got enough heavier to hang down more.
I have not detected any change at all in the hardness of the cylinders when fully pumped or when deflated. When you think about the length of the cylinders your doctor put inside you, their length is based on what your erect size is. Your penis no longer can retract like it previously would have like when you were in a cold pool. There is an amount of constant pressure that probably is helping your penis adapt to its new normal.
The reason we are told to cycle our implants is to maximize our potential length. Implant devices are not for penis enlargement, but when cycled you can potentially regain what you may have lost from conditions like I mentioned above. The difference when cycling is the hardness of the cylinders. It is during those cycling sessions your Penile tissues can stretch to recapture length. So, to my way of thinking it is contradictory that softer cylinders from aging would allow your length to grow. In my mind I would equate it to soft and hard objects in a plastic trash bag. It’s the harder items that cause the bag to stretch, not the soft ones.
I am not saying it is not possible the cylinders soften over time, but there are men who have had implants for years and still get hard erections. I go back to my original response that the pump bulb is what many guys talk about softening over time, not the cylinders.
If your curiosity persists, I suggest you talk to a rep at the implant company. They may be the most knowledgeable to know how the devices change with age.

Re: What happens when the implant gets softer over time?
Have to add. Either BS (AMS) or Coloplast (Titan) have dog ears. Moreso in Titan because of the thickness of their tubes. Over time, in either one, it will get softer. Not go away, but smooth out and/or get softer.
Only the lucky SOBs like Merrix don't get dog ears with their Titans, lol (not trashing you, Merrix).
I had an AMS, now on Malleable, and getting a Titan (maybe) soon.

Re: What happens when the implant gets softer over time?
No worries Agfa. As I said before, I don't even know what dog ears mean. I don't think I have any, but all of you can be the judge. There are plenty of pics of my flaccid in my thread "My Journal", viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6010. Remember the first posts are over 4 years old, so for current state of my flaccid, start from the end and look for pics...
What I do know though is that I am 100% confident of showing my flaccid to anybody and I am sure nobody will see anything weird except the size. No folds and a natural hang.
Anyway, back to the question in this thread.
And if nothing else is mentioned, my answers only apply to the Titan, since that is all I have experience of.
Q1: Maybe it does actually. For sure, I can pump a whole lot more pumps now than in the beginning. Why is that? Don't know. But I guess the most logical explanation is that the cylinders are softer. Someone made a comparison to a balloon. The first time it is harder to blow it than after a few times. I can pump something like 40-45 full pumps now and then another ~20 partials. No bloody way I could do that in the beginning. 50-75% of those numbers only. Plus, it was overall quite uncomfortable in the beginning (first year) with the level that was full at that time. Now, even though I pump a lot more, my dick is much harder, it still feels much more comfortable.
Q2: Another good question. I don't know... Probably yes. But I don't know. We know length increase in a Titan with inflation is minimal. So girth should be larger I guess. Or nothing changes size wise, it is only the pressure inside that changes with more pumps. And hence hardness. I don't know. But I will find out. I will measure my girth sometimes soon, haven't done that for at least a year. Or maybe two.
Q3: Well, as said, I don't have them. But I would guess this would be the case.
In my case, my flaccid has just kept getting better and better. Softer and more pliable. And hanging more and more straight down.
Q4: In my case, as I said above, yes.
Q5: Yes I would say so. I think it definitely has changed over time. I've had mine for 4 years and 2 months now, and it is a big difference. The flaccid just kept getting better for the first 2-3 years. I guess it is the cylinders getting softer, which Eid confirmed to me as well. The material softens up and absorbs fat.
