New TSA machines

Postby Floridaspeedo » Sat Dec 02, 2023 9:49 am

I try to use TSA PreCheck when possible but when not I need to go through the regular machines where you have to hold your arms up. Of course the implant and reservoir show so you need to get patted down.

This week I left Newark and they have brand new machines where you don't raise your arms. You just keep them to your side.

Interestingly enough, the new machines do not pick up the implant or the reservoir.

Maybe they'll roll those same machines out to the rest of the US airports.

Im headed to Sioux Falls Weds for my first flight since surgery. I have resigned myself to answering “That would be my cock” if asked what was in my pants.
I know the TSA people are just doing their jobs but the lack of courtesy when going through makes me a but obnoxious when pressed.

I have had my implant for 11 years now and since traveled through airports all over the USA and south to Mexico, central America, Ecuador, Argentina x2, Europe, eastern Europe, middle east and including Israel where they have some of the strictest security I have seen anywhere. Not once has any TSA person or security asked what I had in my pants. Maybe I just look so harmless. My normal bulge is about 6 inches. If you are larger than that, maybe you might have a problem. I don't even think about.
So don't worry about it.

I've flown many times since my original implant 7 years ago
Never had an issue or ever questioned. This past August it failed and was replaced with a slightly larger implant. Flew to Fla for a couple of weeks and back in late October. I have TSA pre check, but due to a pacemaker and a full knee replacement I have to go through the full scanner. This time at my home airport in KY I set it off as usual (can't remember when if ever ive gone through without setting it off for something or another) but it was saying something in the waistline area. I figured it was the implant or most likely the resrevior. I just told the agent I had a penile implant. I know several people heard me, didn't whisper it'll. Then started to pull my shirt up to show about where the resrevior would be, to see if that matched where the machine was showing. I think he thought I was going to strip right there, he said quickly "don't show him" lol. Then he said it was the metal button on my jeans. Yeah right. Lol. Never showed before.
On the way back from Fla the airport there showed several yellow squares on different body areas. It showed the pacemaker, the knees my watches, and one right between my legs. Made me go through 3 or 4 times to be sure. Quick pat down with the back of the hand and that was it.
We'll see if it happens again. Going back to FL in week or so. No big deal to me. I just tell them if they ask. He'll, I'll show them how it works if they want lol
Maybe I should inflate it this time before. lol

Just rereading my comments and realized that what I said was just my experience and not what the thread was. Anyway , I hope your right about the new machines. But I wander what difference it makes with your arms raised and not raised.

In the ten or so years I've been implanted, I've never had a comment nor a pat down. I also have a Titanium hip.

Surprised how many guys implants haven't been picked up. Whenever I have gone through the reg TSA machines (non TSA PRE) in the U.S. or Canada, I always get patted down. Europe never sets it off. Maybe it has to do with the size of the implant and resovior or the sensitivity of the machine.

The TSA guys in Ft Lauderdale recognize me now. :D

Not that I fly very often. But pre implant I have had some hand wanding or a slight back of the hand grazing. I generally credited that to them doing some statistical spot checking rather than setting off an alarm. Some how some of the airport scanners must be able to determine that there is an object in the groin area. Thus extra scrutiny. Must be programmed to skip breasts cause my wife is pretty busty & I don't remember her ever having trouble. It can't be triggered by metal because there wasn't any metal in the sample implant that I handled in my drs office.

I suspect that a bigger issue is airports that serve flights that come from parts of the world that have a higher terror suspicion. 20 years ago O'hare busted my carry on bag. I had a gouda cheese ball in it that I bought in the Amsterdam airport. Guy looked it over carefully. Swabbed the zipper area & of course it tested for nitrates. He then xrayed the cheese. Nothing in it. I said the nitrates were likely a preservative coating on the cheese. He let it go.

A similar experience with the largest Amaryllis bulb I've ever seen. The agriculture inspector wouldn't let me keep it. Now that hurt my feelings.

I will say that since my implant I've went through two courthouse scans. No problem cause they seem to be looking for metal & I remove all metal & coins before getting there.

I get flagged every time in the full body scanners. Strangers in line don’t tend to pay attention and not sure I care if they did. My wife thinks it is funny. My issue was travel with coworkers who began to notice a pattern. I worked with former military fighter pilots, and if they knew I had an implant there would be no end of harassment, new call signs, jokes. Fortunately, I retired before they figured it out.

Had my first pat down after going thru the "hands in the air" machine at Logan last month.
I have not been implanted yet, but the TSA gentleman showed me the machine's image (with a red dot over my junk) and a rectangular object off to one side. Pretty sure the rectangular object was surgical mesh from a previous hernia repair.

I travel a lot and this was a first for me. Sidenote" This occured about 2 weeks after the war in Gaza started and I think the sensitivity of these machines may have been cranked up?
