What does a penile implant cost?

Postby Johnboy55 » Mon Jan 04, 2016 10:24 pm

Hi, Thinking about this penile implant done but would pay out of pocket because health insurance will not pay for it. I'm 55 years old and don't have medicare.

Thanks.

Mine would have been $30,100.00 without insurance. Plus 2 grand for a hotel and three flights. That includes the chest X-ray, ekg, and blood work I did beforehand.
Would have paid for it all if I had to

At University of Washington Dr. Thomas Walsh said it would be $16,500 out of pocket with no insurance. He said they try to keep it affordable so more men can get the procedure done.
Problems began in 2011 at 51 yo. I did testosterone/HCG/Anastrozole but it didn't fix erections. Pills and tri-mix worked then failed. Had AMS 700 CX installed on Feb 2nd 2016 by Dr. Thomas Walsh at University of Washington.

Here is a copy & paste from a post in 'My Journal'.
Not including the pre op bloodwork and EKG.

All fees to Dr.Eid (consultation, implant procedure, OR, anesthesia, recovery room, Coloplast implant): 25,771 USD
Medicines as requested by Dr.Eid (no insurance, bought at Duane reade in New York): 129 USD
Bentley Hotel (200 meters from Dr.Eid's office, a few blocks away from the clinic where surgery is performed), 11 nights excl breakfast: 2,021 USD
Taxi JFK-Hotel-JFK: 120 USD
Only cost missing is the medical escort from clinic to hotel after surgery. This is required since I am here alone. Anyone having a relative or similar with them would not need this. I don't remeber what the cost for that is.

Total: 28,041 USD.
Of course, I had the cost of business class tickets to NY from Europe and all the living costs (food) in NY for 11 days as well...

A hefty sum, but I hope I get the best possible result by choosing a world-class surgeon.

And double that with insurance  .. Just saw the insurance bill from my recent surgery with Dr. Walsh. Due to an a-fib condition I had the procedure done at the UW hospital instead of the outpatient facility which may have added a bit. Six weeks post-op and very happy with the results. I would have done the $16,500 out of pocket and considered it to be a bargain but thankfully I had insurance.

Does anybody know whether revision surgery costs same or less than the initial surgery? I'm planning ahead just in case I need it' (due to size issue as well as pump placement). If I did go ahead with a revision then I'm probably going with Kramer. Has anybody else had a revision with Kramer? What was the experience?

I was quoted $20K by two docs for "self pay" - if done as outpatient. AMS had a program whereby they'd finance it for two years - no interest - not sure if it's still in effect or not - if you use an AMS product of course.
Finding that hospitals will also let you make no interest payments as well.
Gook luck!

AMS/Boston Scientific still had the program a month ago when I last talked to them but there are 5 ( ?) states that cannot use it due to jerk politicians that consider their programs to be a type of kickback scheme. My state, Missouri, is one of those idiot states. They also have a co-pay assistance program that could eliminate part or all of your co-pay if you have insurance. d
