Will high and low temperatures effect the implant?

Postby Hillywilly » Thu Jan 25, 2024 3:21 pm

I am considering buying a sauna and ice bath to expose my body to hormesis, similar to exercise. Hormesis involves subjecting cells to mild stress, making them stronger and contributing to overall health and longevity, as suggested by animal and human data.

When you expose a hot glass to cold water, it cracks. My question is, can freezing baths or hot saunas wear out implant materials?

I have no idea. My gut says no, if you are staying in an ice bath long enough to freeze the implant you will have other issues. You could alway ware underwear and put a hand warmer on your pump if your worried about it.

Its my understanding they're filled with saline solution. Just a wild ass guess but maybe researching the saline solution might be a good step.

Personally, I think you're going to be ok.

I would call the rep for the manufacturer. My ignorant guess would be it wouldn’t hurt a thing. I get in a hot tub 2-3 times a week but never straight from an ice bath.

Anything your body can tolerate is not going to hurt the implant. Living flesh is a lot more tender than any materials in the implant.

I wonder the same. Fact is silicone reacts to hot and cold, so my guess too would be it's not the best for the device in the long run.
Question is if the temperatures are extreme enough to have an impact. Someone asked this a Coloplast rep before, and he couldn't give an answer. I guess we'd have to contact someone that really know how silicone works (a chemist or something). Probably no one else has the answers.

Yeah I guess I could contact coloplast and see what they think but my guess is i'll be fine at the prescribed durations which I have yet to research but I would guess spending just a few minutes in an ice bath is enough to get the cold shock proteins that are supposed to give the benefits. Sauna i'll do at night so not going straight from one to the next and avoiding rapid expansion and contraction of the silicone molecules which as I'm thinking about it are probably pretty good at expanding and contracting considering their function.

I never tried using my implant outdoors in the wintertime.
