Implant After Radiation

Postby dunbar57 » Fri Jun 17, 2022 12:37 am

I was scheduled for my implant next month. Then my prostate cancer came back so I'll be doing radiation for 7.5 weeks starting in July. I'm wondering how long after radiation until I can get an implant? Has anyone gone down this road?

I was 6 months after my radiation, which was HDR brachytherapy so it involves surgery as well. My doctor wanted to make sure I was healed from those 2 surgeries before doing something else. I had a very uneventful recovery from my implant surgery.

Mine was trying meds, shots and VED to see if anything would work. When all failed I then went for my implant, Dr. knew about radiation treatments and all went well.

I had radiation a few years before the implant surgery. The doctor said that it was a harder surgery than most men due to the fried tissues from the radiation therapy, but it was successful and I'm very happy with the implant. Just make sure you are open with the surgeon about what's happening and when. They should know what to do.

yes it is ok to have implant after radiation.

I strongly reommend that you makae an appointment with your implant surgeon anad ask for his advice regarding whether implant should go first or radiation first.

Personally, I would get the implant now, and then have the radiation wait a few months.....ask your implant surgeon
