How Often To Cycle

Postby charlesr » Mon Dec 06, 2021 4:15 pm

I have had a Titan Touch 18mm for about six years and it has always been a pain to reset the pump. The technique that I use is to give one pump to reset so that the next time I need to pump it up it's already primed. I have read that it's a good idea - in the event of "sticky pump" syndrome - to cycle at least once a day, and my urologist says that's okay.

My problem is that I do realize that these implants have a useable life and they'll last for 20 years when used about once a week. I would welcome some discussion on what the best amount of times to cycle in a week is and what the implications are.

I pump up once each day, but don't know if that affects the life of the apparatus.

My doctor told me to inflate once per day to keep the parts in good condition. I fully inflate almost every day. I miss a day roughly once every other week.

I posed the issue of valve usage and longevity of the implant to my surgeon Dr. Eid. He says longevity is not affected at all by the amount of times the valve is activated and deactivated. He says it has more to do with wear and tear of the connector tubes. I’d like to believe him. In addition, the Coloplast website indicates that the valve is good for “6.5 million+ uses.” I’m not sure I believe that but I will take half of it! Especially since I am activating my implant twice a day either for cycling or sex!!
