How much time between original surgery and minor correction?

Postby subhash » Sat Nov 06, 2021 1:11 am

I am extremely confused whether I should have another procedure done so soon.

I was implanted on the 1st of Sept. The only issue I am facing is that on the RHS the tubing seems to be protruding for about an inch. This was not there in the initial days following the surgery.

The protrusion looks very prominent and spoils the whole show.

My surgeon says there is no need to do anything, but if I insist he will do to for me.

Another doctor has advised me to wait for at least 3 months before undergoing it. He says the issue most likely represents redundant tubing connecting the pump tubing to the reservoir. The pump is pre-connected to the cylinders, however not to the reservoir and the urologist has to trim the reservoir and pump tubing and make one connection. He probably did not trim enough and assumed that the redundant tubing would not bother me. Indeed it is easily repaired by removing the excess tubing and making a fresh connection.

it has also been pointed out that exposing the device however puts one at risk of infection and I could loose the entire implant.

My questions are :
1. Should I go in for the correction or just carry on like this? I cannot put on a condom entirely and it kind of comes out.

2. ideally, when should this surgery be done? I am on vacation now and would like to get it done with.

3. ,Chances of infection are almost zero so I am not bothered about that.

4. Would this create any further complications?

Thanks in advance

Not truly an answer to all your questions. The most common wait time that I've read of was 6 months. But as I remember that was for more extensive procedures. Like adding/removing cylinders, pumps or RTE's.
As to your tubing bulge. Did you get a pubic or scrotal incision?
I think I remember a member that had something similar fixed. His doctor pulled the tubing out of the way & applied a stitch to hold it there. I'm guessing that perhaps the tubing might of adhered to the new position.
Btw, just my opinion. I think this is small enough of a procedure that your infection risk is lower than what you faced on your original implant surgery.
The bulge would bother me also. I wish you the best of luck.

I remember you also had a rigidity issue, as you mentioned that even when you pump to the max, still it is not 100% rigid. IMO, if you are to go under the knife again, make sure everything is fixed. The rigidity is the most important factor of this surgery.
So, I suggest to address this issue in parallel with the protruding tubing problem, and if it is found that a revision is needed to solve the rigidity problem, then you can go ahead with a double repair.

Along with fixing the tubing and the stiffness i would also ask for an AMS LGX 18cm with a 1cm RTE. This will probably fix your tubing issues.
Honestly if i were you i’d be doing non stop traction to get a Titan 20cm.

I had my first alteration after 3 months, then a full replacement 3 months after that.

My timeline might be longer because of Covid and the long waiting lines for operations and hospital beds.
