Jim:
You pose an interesting question. My thoughts are intended to contribute to a dialogue. I wonder if as a first step to growing bigger, I agree most of us would like that, would be to assess what we have now. If one looks thru the roster for this site there are many, many more guys as members than participate in the Chat Room or the Discussion Forums. Perhaps we should first “survey” those individuals to see if they would participate more if_____. As time permits maybe the grand pooh bah(s) of this clan could conduct a survey among these individuals to assess if more service is helpful.
As we know, E D is a sensitive topic for most guys and talking with another guy about erections and “stuff” is a bit over the edge for many. Many individuals may be satisfied to just read and watch. Male sexuality is still a very difficult thing to get one’s hand or mind around. This site is amazing at opening vistas and minds but can we do more and allow more guys to feel comfortable with the site’s efforts. The fact that FrankTalk is a world-wide group of guys fighting the same demon is impressive and should not be underestimated. The good that is done here should be celebrated; even if quietly and in private.
Also, how would the chat room function if 44 guys were on at one given time? How would we handle the privacy and variety of topics? Certainly there is room to continue to grow. Should there be additional discussion forums? Can the site be improved to allow 2 or 4 to have a private chat or private message? Could the market place be activated to allow us to purchase within a private “store” and perhaps generate some $$ to help underwrite the site? Additional informational and instructional videos may be an additional service if the legal tech issues can be worked out. Is FrankTalk an incorporated entity and is it a non-profit to which contributions can be made? Can we find sponsors or underwriters to assist us to grow and assume some of the financial burden of maintaining the site?
If each active member talked with his urologist and internist about the benefits of the site we could do good and we would grow. I have discussed FrankTalk with my Urologist (also a PCa victim) and he is looking at it. When I have my annual physical in November, I will discuss FrankTalk with my Internist and I’m sure he will look into the site’s work.
Jim, your efforts to generate dialogue around this topic is great! The balance of planned, controlled growth versus an explosion of growth is an important thought process. While not “looking” for an explosion of growth, if we did something and it happened, how would the site handle the situation?
This is a great start, my thanks for your efforts. I hope these disjointed thoughts help you.
Regards,
Dick
