Hello From Another New Member

Postby sswinsfba » Wed Jan 11, 2023 10:42 pm

Hello: I've been lucking here for awhile, learning as much as I can from others here about penile implants.

I'm 72 and live in the SF Bay Area (SFBA). I've been sufferering from mild ED for several years but it only recently became more serious. I've taken daily 5mg cialas for years but it also recently had no apparent effect.

I had no interest in injecting anything in my glans to induce an erection, given how painful and inconvenient that could be. That left a penile implant as the final option. I was pleased to learn that the procedure was covered by Medicare and that no proof of medical necessity was required for approval.

So, I did some research and intially found Dr. Perito's website and read/viewed everything I could find there. I contacted his office for a reference in the SFBA and he referred me to a Dr. Shu Pan in Walnut Creek, whose name I think they got from Boston Scientific's list of providers because I had previously seen his name there.

I met w/Dr. Pan several times and had a surgery scheduled with him for 01/19/2023 before I decided to go with someone else. My main reasons for choosing another surgeon were: 1) his limited experience, 2) his preference for the peno-scrotal approach , 3) poor office staff support and 4) the hospitals where he had surgical privileges which I did not like.

After looking around some more, I found Dr. Edward Karpman in Mt. View. Read & viewed everything on his website and met him in just before Xmas 2023.

I decided to go with him because of: 1) his knowledge/experience, 3) the quality of his answers to my questions, 3) his preference for the infra-public approach, 3) his statement that he tries to maximize length/girth when the size of the device falls "in between" sizes, 4) the quality of his support staff.

So, I'm scheduled for the surgery to be performed by Dr. Karpmen in just a couple of weeks early on Tue 01/24/2023. He'll be using the Coloplast Titan which was my preference. He said I could be released to drive my self home the following day but I am having someone pick me up anyway.

I've had a wide variety of surgeries and am not worried about the procedure but to say I am unconcerned would be untruthful. Of course, I'm anxious and hopeful that the surgery turns out well and that my recovery is quick and relatively painless but I am prepared for the worse if it happens.

I've read so much about the procedure that I really don't have any questions.

Just wanted to make my presence known but I plan to report on my progress after the surgery to address any concerns that may arise as well as to provide another data point for others out there, who have been lurking like me and who are still thinking about ungoing the surgery themselves.

Wish me luck! ;)

Welcome to FrankTalk! I hope you find all the support and answers you need here. It’s a good group of guys.

Let us know how your procedure goes. Consider documenting pictures before and after. Be it’s helpful to the guys that come after you to see what you go through. They’ll have. A better idea what to expect when the time comes.

Lots of helpful journals on here of guys documenting their progress.

The chat is also useful for being able to talk 1:1. It’s not very busy but late morning and midday is the busiest time there.
55yo, NYC. ED started at 40. 50 units BiMix + Atropine (Pap 30/Phen 6/Atr 0.2). Prostaglandins caused aching. Doses increasing. A cock ring helps. Phallosan Forte tension devise to maintain size. Eager to talk about implant experiences.

Thanks for the info. My pre-op size is about the same as yours 5 3/4 long by 5 3/4 around. Just hoping for little or no change.

Using a 1.75# VED tube preop for 10 mins @ 5hg 2x's/day prior to surgery to maintain length. Probablyhnot necessary to do this since my ED is recent I still get nocturnal erections (not at max strength) but it makes me feel better.
