Hotline?

Postby Frank Talk Admin » Sun Dec 12, 2010 7:50 am

Guys,
Michigan Man's recent difficulties with his pump late at night left me wondering what we could do. He is FAR from the first guy to need help at awkward hours. I don't think anyone is answering the phones at AMS or Coloplast. We all know that an emergency room staff is going to be completely stumped with this...and all it takes is for another pump user to help.

Are there any tech guru's out there who can help me figure out a way to help with this?

I would like to see a "Help me" button somewhere on the site for times like this. Is there a way that a guy could hit that button, post a short message and have it become a text message to several guys who have signed up to help? If we can cover a broad range of time zones, it would really help.

Any thoughts? Ideas?

Paul,

I can only speak for myself, of course, but I think many of us are often on the computer at odd hours of the day and night, and certainly during "after hours" for most clinics and such. However, I am not always logged on to FT until or unless I am ready to check the forums and or visit the chat room. I would be happy to address any "emergency" issue which might arise (and about which I may have some competence, of course) any time I'm at the computer. So if you techie guys could figure out a way for the 'HELP' button to send an e-mail or something other kind of alert, this could work into something pretty valuable. Just my thoughts.

For my part, I sure wish someone had been up and online at 2:00 in the morning after my first couple of shots. Waiting for Mr Happy to calm down while trying to decide if it was time to go to the ER was not as much fun as it might sound. I'm just saying.

Git 'er done!

I was just wondering if anything ever developed from this idea.

Hard Drive,
I sound like a broken record when I say - all it takes is money. The membership has grown exponentially since this was posted and we now have men from all over the world who would participate. This sort of peer mentoring system is the way to go. No medical or corporate organization is going to do it for us. Something even so simple as this will cost a couple hundred dollars to set up.
Let's keep this idea somewhere near the top of the list.

I would recomend that If you getting an implant get in contact with one of the bionic guys here and exchange phone numbers for just such an emergency!

Well, I can't contribute money (right now) due to my own personal situation, but I would volunteer to help out when I can. I'm thinking that this could be tied in to the chat function. Helpers could login to the chat and be available in a special room. If needed a private chat could be enabled with voice or phone number could be exchanged privately. I think this would be the way to go because you aren't tied down to monitoring it all the time. When you have volunteer time, just login, go about your business until you see activity in the need help section, and respond to help requests.

it would need to be refined a bit, but I think something along this line would make it possible for people to volunteer their time on their availability terms. Also, with many people willing to help out, I'm sure some one would always be ready and able.

Anybody tried Axiron? This is a Androgel type product but supposed to be much more effective. Just got mine today. Comes to West Des Moines via Austrailia.

I use Axiron and I am fair skin. The alcohol base is burning the crap out of my armpits. I have recently been increased to using it under both arms once a daily. Prior to the increase it was one swipe once a day and I could alternate armpits..now with the increase it is burning my pits like mad. I have contacted my Dr and he is in the process of get insurance approval to switch me to another brand. Make sure you visit the website for Axiron to get the copay card to lower your copay for the first year. Good luck..other than the burning..no other problems..if they could find a way to stop the burning I would stick with it.

Good luck I hope it helps and my info answered your questions
