Another question fellas. I have been finding how important icing is for recovery. As my bionic date fast approaches, I want to see what the best methods have been. I have stocked up on frozen corn( not on the cob…haha). Wanting to know about placement of bags most importantly and average length of time on/off ya’ll did that worked best. Looking for what worked best, like a bag on the right, one on the left, etc.
As always, any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Ice Ice Baby
For the first three days I was bandaged/bundled up. So putting ice bags directly on the mound of bandages and leaving it there all the time was great.
I just used ice cubes in a gallon ziplock baggie and a narrower ice pack bag. The narrower one went between my thighs to cool down my balls. The gallon ziplock baggie went on top of the mound. When it thawed out I poured out the water and refilled it with ice. My freezer has an ice maker. There was plenty.
I kept ice on 24 hours a day if possible. It helped a lot. No worries about overdoing the ice because of the bandages.

It’s the most important thing you can do to encourage a fast recovery and less pain.
I bought 4 large bags of frozen peas and had a bag on my crotch at all times during the first three days post surgery, and frequently used them up until about 4 weeks post op.

I’m considering buying a cryotherapy device that circulates ice water through a pad you can place as needed. Is this a good idea, or just overkill and I should use ice bags or peas?

I got one when I was discharged from the hospital after knee replacement to use on my knee. You can use ice if you want, however you will also need to provide an additional layer between your skin and the cooling pad or it may cause frostbite. When I was using it, I used frozen 8oz water bottles and the cooling effect was much less biting.
However, as always, YMMV . . .
