So I was just informed that my insurance will not pay for an implant. I have been under a urologists care for 18 months and have literally tried everything. The first time I tried the injection it was excruciating! The nurse administered the shot , a full cartridge. By the time we got home I had an erection. I really tried! Having sex to the point my wife asked me to stop because she could tell how painful it was. I took the recommended Sudafed and the erection subsided. I remained in pain for 12-16 hours , like the sheet touching it was painful. Spoke to urologist, they said try half a cartridge. Same results. At that point I gave up on injections. At this point I am ready to try it again.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi, when you say pain, is it an ache in your shaft and maybe groin? Is your erection so hard it down right hurts? It could be the dosage. The Dr has suggested reducing it because it takes time to find the correct dosage. It is different for everyone. When I started i had the absolute smallest dosage 0.5 and I went 4 hours and hurt like hell the whole time (no sex, not even a hand job). But for me, it was here on FT that I discovered I was allergic to one of the ingredients in the Tri-Mix. The allergic reaction is not unusual, and is caused by the alprostadil, (papaverine, and phentolamine being the other two ingredients). The conundrum is that the Alprostadil helps protect from scaring the penis. I suffered with the pain for 10 years until I found FT and found out about Bi-Mix which was an absolute game changer. Bi-Mix does not have the Alprostadil. However, the alprostadil helps prevent scaring so my first URO would not change my prescription. Found a different Dr and was on Bi-Mix for a happy couple years but finally the injections were starting to be less effective, and Dr. Eid came to the rescue. You can PM me if you have questions or would like to talk. Best of luck on your journey.

I too started with Trimix and found the ache to be unacceptable. In short, my doc put me on Bimix and erections are wonderful (like a teenager again). Units have slowly been increasing, but I'm on a low dose (30:1) and on 20 units; plenty of room and years to go. Hope you keep trying till you find the right dose for you.
Starting you on a full needle and 4-hour erection with Sudafed afterwards doesn't seem like the conservative approach.

You're saying something I'd not heard before. I'm not disputing it, I'm just interested in learning more. I've previously understood that alprostadil was less likely to induce fibrosis but I've not heard that it was actually active in preventing it. Can you give me some citations for what made you come to that conclusion? I'm very careful to be alert for scarring and I'm interested in anything that would reduce the risk.
