I'm Doing It!

Postby ElbowRoom » Mon Apr 14, 2025 10:52 am

Talked to Dr. Hakky this morning, I'm getting my implant surgery scheduled. I don't want to be in recovery over Summer, so we're going to do it in mid-late October.

Insurance is no-go due to an explicit exclusion for "sexual dysfunction procedures", so I will be self pay. I know Dr. Hakky's portion, but I have to get estimates for the hospital portion and the anesthesia portion, then I'll be able to report a total all-in cost. If it's much higher than what Dr. Hakky predicted, I might have to push the surgery farther out or cash in some assets, we'll see how that goes.

Hakky recommends a Titan for me because my stretched length is over 8.5"...he said I might need an implant up to 26cm. I'm married and the scar isn't an issue so he recommends an infrapubic approach -- his experience shows that to have lower infection risk and faster healing time. Though GoodWood's fast penoscrotal recovery has me wondering. I also know IP has more noticeable tubing an the base, which Dr. Hakky confirms does happen. He'll do it whichever way I want, so I have time to mull it over and decide...would certainly welcome any input.

I'm pretty excited, but obviously also a little apprehensive. The doc told me to start cycling using a VED every day, luckily I have one and have been doing that anyway to masturbate and have sex. I'll add some additional cycles into that routine and hopefully at surgery time I'll get the most out of it possible.

I wanted to shout-out to all the great members here, this forum is invaluable in giving information to men on a wide variety of topis that are otherwise hard to talk about otherwise ignored in most venues. Thanks ya'll, I'll let you know hoe things progress up to surgery.

First of all, good luck. Question? Why don't you continue with the injections?

I've been doing injections over a decade. They work. But they are cumbersome, painful, can't really be used traveling because they require refrigeration. But the big thing is spontaneity. Sex becomes "put it on the schedule" so we can have half an hour to get set...then the act...then wait 2-3hrs for the erection go away so I can go do other things afterwards.

Also, Having done the shots so long, It feels like it's only a matter of time for scarring and Peyronie's Disease. So far I'm straight as an arrow and doppler shows no scarring, but that can't be the case forever.

I just want to be as hard as I want when I want, soft when I want, no needles and no hassles (after the big hassle of surgery).

I only used injections about 16 months and that was enough. However I never could get consistent with shots. Totally get the spontaneity issues, and travel issues. Been implanted almost 3 years and never looked back! Was the best decision I had made about ED in many years! Love my bionic dick!
59 years old ED started mid 40s pills failed after 10 years. Injections works but diminishing results with pain. Implanted 5-22 Baylor,Scott, and White Dallas.Dr Michael Wierschem, infrapubic Coloplast with Classic pump 20cm and 1cm RTE. Going strong

Both of my implants were penscrotal, cannot say anything about infrapubic, I can say that with my 2nd implant the penscrotal was a breeze, no issues with either surgery though. Good luck and I don't blame you for getting off the shots..

Got some pricing today. At first they wanted to do it in the hospital and when adding Doc fees, hospital, and anesthesia it was over $29k, more than I expected. I then found because I'm healthy enough they could do it in the office for $22k. Hospital surgery required $500 deposit, but the in-office they take half to book the date...$11k. I don't mind the larger deposit since I'm saving over $7k.

I haven't given them the cash yet, will call them tomorrow. I do want to find out the terms, like if it's refundable if I cancel the surgery, etc.

But I'm on the way, the date we're looking at is Oct. 23.

Thanks...do you mind telling me your recovery times for each surgery? The doc said he thought typically PS was more like 6 week recovery and IP closer to 3 weeks, which is part of his preference. I do like the idea of everything being essentially invisible though.

Man, tough question, my first one was 6 yrs ago, at that time I would agree with the 6 weeks, and that was when I had first sex with the implant. Everyone is different, also procedures have changed, I mean guys today aren't even taking pain pills after surgery and it's their first! So, I can tell you this on my revision, no pain, no pain pills, walking through the neighborhood in 48 hrs, and had sex on day 10. One question I would ask is if my implant fails, and I have it done infrapubic can it all be removed penscrotal. I have read of guys that have had revisions and their reservoirs are left in place along with the new reservoir. I had my original reservoir removed but I had to ask my surgeon to do it, just wondering if it placed differently infrapubic.

Good Luck ElbowRoom with this first part of your journey, getting everything in place for the surgery.
I had the peno install which did take 6 weeks before I could cycle and cleared for sex, but everyone heals different and for me it took longer than six weeks; for me it took between 8 to 10 week before things got way better.
I got back on my road bike at 4 weeks, so I got back in the saddle on my road bike way before I got back in the saddle with my wifey

We'll be here to help,

ElbowRoom- good luck with your process. I’m in the same timeframe- waiting until end of summer to get some golf and boating in before I need to pack my bag in ice for a few days. Will be nice to put the worst of my post RP ED behind me!
RP 2012, fought ED with viagra and cialis for years then switched to trimix for 3 years. Then scar tissue settled in. Now fighting atrophy with a VED and getting ready for an IPP in Oct 2025.
