Implant while still being potent, albeit infrequently and not stable?

Postby JakOBson » Sat Dec 10, 2022 10:39 am

Past the 60 years age mark my sex drive significantly lowered and the quality of erections deteriorated.

So, I find myself in a position where I no longer need sex as frequently as I would have wanted. And when I do, the erection is no longer as bullet proof as it used to be.It may fail if I dislike something about the way things go, for example.

Not need to say that every time that happens, it feels very embarrassing.

So I am facing a difficult dilemma.

Given that I still can pull it naturally once in a while, do nothing and simply accept the fact that I am no longer as a potent love-maker as I once was. That I can do things, but in a rather mediocre way. This sounds kinda reasonable but makes me very sad.

Or implant and enjoy rigorous sex, just off the bionic platform now.

I am sure that there are people here who faced the same choice.

For those of you who boldly opted for the implant from that position, what are the retrospective insights: was that decision right or not?

Thanks in advance, brothers.

Jak,

You didn’t mention the use of any of the common “helpers”, such as VEDs, pills or injections. The normal progression is usually pecker pills until they cease to work consistently, then moving to tri-mix. It is generally accepted to use these methods until they become unreliable, which they will at some point, then consider the implant. Most are very happy with their implant and some say they wished they had gone directly to an implant when first bothered with ED. These are personal decisions and with the help of FT and your urologist I’m sure you will make the right decision for you.
Used Viagra & Cialis until lost vision in one eye due to AION, therefore can never use pills again, then tri-mix 1 1/2 years until unreliable. Implanted 9/20/22 at 77 years old by Dr. Yafi, UC Irvine. Married 55 years wife 76. 20cm Coloplast Titan.

Hi

Based on your comment, I would add that you check your hormone levels, the lack of desire is usually associated with low testosterone and/or other hormones.

As my colleague AmansinCali commented, a certain progression is usually followed in the treatments, depending on their physical condition in general and the recommendations of the andrologist,

For now there is nothing beyond the implant, the last frontier...

That doesn't mean it's bad, quite the opposite.

This seems important to me. And for whatever reason it also seems like most men don't really understand that, or won't acknowledge it, or something. There's still tons of stigma to having ED, but...it literally happens to everyone. Our dicks were bigger and better at 20. Less so during our 30s. 40s. 50s. Keep going. We're humans. Brad Pitt isn't gonna have rock-hard erections at 65 either. C’est la vie.

Thanks to those who responded so far.

Medication no longer helps. The situation that I described is with or without viagra, it really no longer affects me much.

Testosterone is mid-high, well above the minimum.

So back to the square one.

Those who (1) were still capable of penetrative sex in a natural way, but no longer of high quality and (2) because of that opted NOT to wait until the ability is lost altogether and so jumped into implants a bit "ahead of time":

With a hindsight was that a good decision or better would have been to stay natural as long as at least some minimal ability remains there?

I did it ahead of time. Details for me are probably irrelevant (and stupid), because essentially I chose implant since the need to "plan" for sex by taking a pill or injecting something into your dick approx. ~45 minutes before possible coitus encounters wasn't appealing to me anymore. Implants make you hard and keep you there. Makes my life easier. Is my opinion there's no major benefit to keeping natural erections going, and there's no major downside to switching to implant either. But keep in mind it's a huge personal choice, a man cutting into his dick, as well as possibly involving relationships, so my comment has nothing to do with that. Only that I'm happy I did and don't see why almost anyone would regret it.

Many thanks, bro, this is exactly kind of information that I am after.

You did not mention your sex partner's involvement. Are you monogamous? Your partner super-supportive? Involved in your decisionmaking? How comfortable are you with other ways of sex than coitus? (I made do with tongue and toys to supplement my failing erections for quite a while before implantation.)

I am divorced since a while, no stable partner, just a string of successive relationships and hookups. So that supportive and understanding partner is not an option.

Hello @JakOBson

You address a key point in my eyes, concerning the implantation.
Not having sufficient erections for sure (although it can still happen), looking for certainty and consistency over time is for me a more than enough reason to choose the implant.
Being at 60% success, or even more, is not enough. Even if the injections work 6 or 7 times out of ten, either.
The failure of a report in itself does not really matter, but what it may involve in consideration and rumination, yes.

In short, the only search for certainty and a definitive peace of mind greatly justifies the decision to have an implant.

And yet I am not someone who lives only by and for sex, far from it.
But peace of mind trumps all. And that's what I've live for a little over a year.

One can of course have other existential concerns, but at least these are addressed without the dull and permanent discomfort of possible sexual disappointment.

It makes a VERY big difference!
