AMS 700 LGX 21 cm Issue?
I recently had a consultation with a urologist who prefers to use the AMS implants in his patients and during our question and answer session, he mentioned that he goes up to the next size when applicable unless it means using the AMS LGX 21 cm model. He stated that the 18 cm model has more strength and has proven more reliable than the 21 cm model so he might install more than 2.5 cm of RTE's, if necessary, to use the 18 instead of the 21. I have noticed some guys on this site who have the AMS LGX 21 but I also see some with the AMS LGX 18 with 3 cm, or more, RTE's. The high volume installers seem to always try to minimize the amount of RTE's used so I'm confused by the mixed messages. I have done so much research and think I would prefer the LGX but I'm really unsure about potentially having more than 3 cm of RTE's installed. I like the idea of length and girth expansion and because it is made from a more flexible material than the Titan, I think the recovery might be a bit easier. Waiting 4-6 months for the Titan to soften up enough to feel really comfortable seems like a long time. Have others heard of issues with the 21 cm LGX and, if so, is it better to have the doc use more than 3 cm of RTE's and use the 18 cm LGX or should I want the 20 or 22 cm Titan instead? I'm a large build with an average size penis so I think the 21 cm or longer might, again might, be a possibility. No one knows exactly what size they are going to receive in advance so maybe I'm just overthinking the possibilities and should let the doc do his thing.

First I've heard about any issues with the 21... that's what I have, lol. It will be interesting to hear other people weigh in on this.
One thing I will share about MY experience with the LGX, it did take a good 3 to 4 months for mine to really soften up. Admittedly, I wasn't overly aggressive with cycling the first few months following surgery - I just did the minimum recommended by my doc so maybe the break-in process took longer because I didn't work it aggressively.
Best of luck on your journey - hope you love yours as much as I love mine.

I’ve heard that about the 21 cm LGX too. Now, my surgeon didn’t flat out say that’s why I ended up 18+5. Let’s just say I got the impression that there were several good and plausible reasons I don’t have a 21 cm LGX plus 2, and the long term reliability of the 18 cm version was one of them.
Both AMS and Coloplast deliver excellent products. Dr Clavell out of Houston has videos comparing the two. You might be light years ahead by listening to what your surgeon recommends for you.
As far as your body size goes, it doesn’t matter. They won’t know for sure how much you need until they open you up. All bets are off. I’m 6’1”, 185 lbs, had 6 3/4” before implant. 2 1/2 years later I’m within 1/4”….more like within 1/8” of that. And they did it with an 18 cm LGX. So unless your packing 7-8-9 inches….your doc can probably make the 18 cm work just fine.
Good luck. I have no regrets and second guessing my surgeon is nothing I wish to spend time doing.

Re: AMS 700 LGX 21 cm Issue?
Post RP,
On my revision, my doc strongly advised if I hit 21 cm measurements, he recommended AMS CX which I agreed upon just before being wheeled to OR.
I also wanted LGX. And yes, I hit 21 cm and received CX which I do not regret at all. Love it, nice looking and very natural and soft when deflated and hard as rock when inflated. Usually, for sex, my wife and I prefer it not fully inflated, just around 80-85%.
I think, you’ll be fine with either one. Just find high volume surgeon.
My revision was done by Dr Clavell and I couldn’t be happier.

Welcome to the site. I was told by a well known NYC and a well known Atlanta GA doctor that the 21cm LGX has problems and they would not use them. They recommended either a CX or a Titan instead. My doctor was also a well known doctor at the time of my surgery did not share that as I have a 21cm LGX. 21cm is the longest LGX made and it seems some doctors think that even the 21 is too much for the design. I have seen in the past RTE's used with the 18cm Titan due to the larger girth over the 22cm. Thing is doctors are different and so do men. The well known NYC doctor is penoscrotal approach and the well known Florida doctor is infra pubic. And men on this site have had 21cm LGX implants with no problems and others long sections of RTEs with no problems. That your doctor has said he will not use the 21cm LGX mirrors 2 very well known doctors and seems to indicate a desire to do what is best for his patients. Aggressive sizing is also a plus. Sounds like a doctor with experience. Surgeon search is an important part of this if you are able to do that. The 2 things that are important to me would be if the doctor does repairs and revisions and infection prevention. I would also ask to speak with a man who he had implanted and how long you will wait to be activated (start cycling). The thing is to do enough to have confidence in your doctor for this. Then follow the doctors instructions.
Good luck with your surgeon search.
Injections failed. Implanted 3-21-18 AMS 700 LGX 21 + 1 RTE 100 cc reservoir 6.5" L 5" G Dr. Kramer.
