Surgery scheduled.

Postby librariwhs » Tue Aug 23, 2022 7:39 pm

Hello, this is my first post. I've been reading on this board for several years and I have learned much. I have had ED ever since I had a priapism about 15 years ago. None of the meds help much so I'm pretty sure I have a veinous leak. I spoke with my urologist about getting an implant about 8 years ago, but my wife discouraged me from doing it. I should not have listened to her. In any case my marriage has come apart and I have filed for divorce. It has nothing to do with my ED. I won't go into the details. I went back to see my urologist and he agreed with me that an implant is my best option. In fact, I believe it is the only option if I want to be able to have any sex life while I'm still able. So I am scheduled for September 21. My urologist has done about 2000 of these procedures over the years, so I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing by now. He will do either AMS or Titan. I'm leaning toward an AMS lgx because I'm sure I have atrophied over the years and I will need all the help an lgx can give me. I would appreciate your advice on this subject. I forgot to ask him if he does prescrotal or pubic. I will ask about that and post it here.I know there are some risks, but I'm willing to accept those risks since the alternative is either no sex or a penis pump. My biggest worry is infection. I'm not diabetic, so that lowers the risk even further. I've read a lot of success stories on this board and a few not so happy customers but it seems to me that the success and satisfaction rate is very high. I'm looking forward to it. While this surgery and recovery takes place, I will be between ladies so to speak, but I feel certain I will find companionship and love/sex when I'm healed enough to begin a new chapter in my life. I'll keep you all updated as this story unfolds, as many others have. I've read many of them and it has been educational and encouraging.

Welcome! I am in the same boat as you - in between ladies - but I am a widower (spouse passed away 1 year ago) rather than due to divorce. I scheduled surgery for 10/24 and will be given an AMS but my surgeon does not use the LGX model. Once healed and past the holidays, I look forward to dating again in January. Good luck!

I wish both of you the best! I underwent implant surgery today, and if your experience is anything like mine, you’ll be very happy. My surgery at the Cleveland Clinic couldn’t have gone better from what I’m being told. No unexpected surprises. Very mild discomfort now.

I received a Coloplast Titan, 20cm, no RTE’s, infrapubic. Tomorrow, I see a nurse to remove my surgical drain, and then in 3 weeks my doc says he’ll start having me cycle the implant. In my case, my wife is being very supportive. It’ll be incredible to be 100% reliable with no more frustration.

It’s a courageous thing we’re all doing, and it’s not easy to make the leap, but I figured what is there really to lose? Nothing else was working, the time came to find the best surgeon I could and trust him. So far, so good for me. And I hope the same will be true for you.

It sounds like the time is right for you to get an implant.

I followed my doctor's directions to the letter before and after the surgery. I believe doing so was a big part of why I didn't get an infection, which was also a big concern for me.

Given your doctor's experience, I assume you'll get detailed information about how to prepare for the surgery and take care of yourself afterwards.

You'll need someone to drive you home after the surgery. And, if you get instructions like mine, you won't be allowed to lift anything over 5 pounds for the first two weeks, so you'll want to prepare for that.

I'm not single, but I can't imagine there aren't plenty of ladies out there who will be happy with a guy who can get hard any time and stay hard for as long as they want. 8-)

Thanks robcb1. I hope you have a speedy and easy recovery. My surgeon is Dr. Laurence Levine in Chicago. He has done 3500 implants and utilizes the penoscrotal approach. I understand that he has implanted more individuals in the Midwest than anyone else so I feel I am in good hands. I am diabetic but my A1c is below 7 so it is considered well controlled. Infection is obviously anyone’s biggest concern but Levine advises he has a 1.2 percent infection rate for both diabetics and non-diabetics alike and if I keep my A1c below 7 I will be in good shape. Looking forward to surgery as I want to start dating again but of course nervous as well. Just under nine weeks to go. Good luck!

Thanks to all of you for the support and encouragement. i am mostly excited, but a little nervous, which is to be expected in taking such a big and irreversible step. But, as has already been said, there's very little choice unless I want to live like a monk. Nope. I still have some questions I should already have asked my surgeon. I will ask them and post the answers.

You’re definitely going with one of the best, mschicago. My doctor trained under Laurence Levine, and I am amazed at my recovery so far. I have absolutely no swelling. My surgical drain was in for 24 hours then removed today. I have zero pain, just a very dull soreness. Haven’t used ice at all. Frankly, I’m shocked. Like others have said, follow your doctor’s orders to the letter, and don’t overdo it even if you feel well. It’s working so far for me.

The nine weeks will pass before you know it, and you’ll be a new man! You’re in really good hands there with Levine, and I can’t wait to hear about your experience. And way to go in that fantastic A1C level!
