Pre-Implant Length

Postby Steve5231 » Sun Jul 24, 2022 7:52 am

I’m wondering why a doctor couldn’t use a pump to determine the length of the penis before surgery. Thoughts?
75 years old. Was on Viagra and then Cialis but got fed up with the side effects. Switched to Tri-Mix 3 years ago but had increasingly reduce effect. Finally implanted 1/19/2023. Always looking for advice. Live in Illinois.

It wouldn't mean anything. The only measurement that matters is the one taken of the corpus cavernosum inside the penis which is done during surgery.
20 years of severe Peyronie's plaque, 90 curve, hinging and ED. Cost me 1.5" L and 1" G.
Implanted 2/18/21, AMS CX, 18 CM + 3 RTE, penoscrotal. Have gained 3/4". Gay, married, age 68.

A pump will draw blood into your penis. This is different than pumping and pushing fluid into the cylinders so a measurement will be required at surgery anyway. As part of the space for the cylinders is inside your body in addition to pumping or injecting fluid in the penis you would need some type of calibrated imagery to measure the space. But why go to all that when the doctor still needs to measure in surgery. A lot of time and expense to give you a more accurate estimate.
Injections failed. Implanted 3-21-18 AMS 700 LGX 21 + 1 RTE 100 cc reservoir 6.5" L 5" G Dr. Kramer.

Ok, then please explain how the doctor will measure you? Your penis is full of fluid so a tool can't be inserted into it. Can't measure your proximal penile length either. But wait a minute. He can look at it & say you have a good looking dick!.
The doctors use the current method because its proven to work just fine.

There are videos that show graphically how the measurement is taken.

After cutting an opening in your penis, eventually the surgeon gets to the tunica albuginea. Then a measuring tool is inserted into the incision, dilating the corpus cavernosum (which compresses it and does some damage, which does not matter, since it is not working right any more and will be replaced or supplanted by the implant).

The tool is pushed alll the way toward the distal tip of the penis (quite energetically, you will see in the videos-quite alarming to some men). The tool reaches to the inner insides of the tunica albuginea as far up into the glans as it will go. The distance is noted. Then the tool is withdrawn and re-inserted to the proximal end of the tunica - down into the pelvic crus asfar as it will go until it reaches bottom.

How much force is used to make these measurements is a matter of judgement. That is why experience matters so much.

This is necessary because the implant must fit well to expand the tunica as well as the corpora cavernosum did(when it was working right).

The two measurements are added together to tell the what size implant will fit to the full length of your tunica.

The surgeon may apply some judgement to adjust the selection of waht length implant to use. That is another reason why experience matters.

There is not that much fluid in your penis (blood) that the surgeon cannot measure. Besides, they vacuum out spilled blood during surgery.

Yes, that is true. But the surgeon is primarily interested in the INSIDE of your penis during the surgery. So, if the surgeon says you have a good looking penis, he is probably referring to the condition of the insides.

Thanks LS. I've seen numerous implant surgery videos. Very familar with the process. I took his question to mean measuring the cavernosom while it was inflated by whatever means. Really doesn't matter how, once the cavernosum is punctured to insert the tool. The inflated erection is quickly lost. I doubt that any kind of decent measurement can be found that way.
The other method that would fit his question would be to measure the erect penis as it was inflated. As I said. I really doubt that a reasonably accurate measurement of the hidden part of a penis can be made by external means.
Please read the original posters question again.
