I’m afraid it will be soon time for me to cross that territory. I don’t say it disparagingly to those whom have,it’s just hard to coming to grips with the reality of my choices. That being said, those whom have gone this route how many implant surgeons did you consult with before you made up your choice or surgeon? I’ve consulted 2 in the Chicagoland area and I would feel in good hands with Levine, but ironically work will have me periodically in Perito’s backyard several times over the next 3 months. I’m probably overthinking this and if I’m comfortable with Levine, would it make any sense to see what Perito has to say? Obviously surgery an hour away vs a plane ride away is a different ballpark, but that aside would I stand to gain anything? It’s not like I’m expecting a new “conservative” approach.
Curious to the hive mind.
Thanks

There is a decent chance I will need a revision. Besides my original surgeon, I am getting a second opinion from 2 other top surgeons in the US.
Personally, I would always get a second opinion, especially now that there are so many great high volume surgeons in the US and virtual calls make things very flexible.

Titan OTR. Dr. Hakky - successful surgery and very happy with outcome.
My advice: choose a world-class surgeon and make yourself the healthiest you can.

Re: How many consults before deciding on a surgeon
3 urologists confirmed the implant was the best option.
I spoke with two surgeons. One high volume, one not.
More importantly I spoke with patients from both made my decision based on my own research.

Unfortunately, I didn't see any other doc except my surgeon. I knew nothing about implants other than it would get me an erection again. I was comfortable enough after meeting with my surgeon, and he was the high-volume guy in the area.
After being a member of FT and learning so much, if my surgery was tomorrow a lot would be different. But I'm happy with the results I got.

Re: How many consults before deciding on a surgeon
I spent a great deal of time researching on-line. FT, You Tube etc. I talked to the AMS rep and got a list of the highest volume implanters in this area. He also gave me the name of a patient advocate to talk to. I met with the first doc and didn't like his attitude, cold and superior, and very aggressive. The second doc was warm, open, honest and sympathetic. He was open with his volume and background. That was it, I moved forward with my implant with him. I could not be happier!

I consulted with 3 surgeons before selecting Eid. One of them told me I would lose 20% of my length because it would not go into my glans -- seriously...
Another was Hakky who very much impressed me but the logistics of traveling to see Eid became the reason for my choice (and it turned out to be a great choice!)

75, used pills, injections -- all lost effectiveness. Titan implanted by Eid in Feb '22.

I did a ton of research and consults with BOSTON SCIENTIFIC before settling on Chesapeake Urology and Dr. Friedlander (who has performed thousands of implants). Low infection and failure rate. Amazing staff who handled all tests in house and insurance coordination. Bionic boner cost me $300 (co-pay for outpatient surgical center). Couldn't be happier.

Re: How many consults before deciding on a surgeon
I had 2 consults before deciding on a surgeon. The first was with a doctor in a major hospital in NorCal with which I have PCa care. The second was with Dr. Eid. A nano-second into my Zoom call with Dr. Eid, I knew he was going to be my surgeon, which he was (I am a week post-op today, 7/22/22). In my case, scar tissue prevented him from easily placing the reservoir, but he knew immediately how to pivot. Every detail of the procedure and any unforeseen complications are handled deftly by Dr. Eid. I was also very happy he agreed to perform a scrotoplasty on me. He is extremely down-to-Earth, approachable and is an outstanding surgeon for implant procedures. Peace-of-mind far outweighs the worry of complications in the hands of less-experienced technician as well as the extra cost to spend a week in NYC.
Titan 20cm, Dr. Eid 7/15/22. ED before/after RT (2015), EBRT (2016) & ADT (20 mos.). EBRT & improper penile rehab post-treatment left penile/abdominal scarring, arterial blockage & slight hour-glass shape with Peyronie's disease.

Re: How many consults before deciding on a surgeon
Over the course of my ED, I've met with three urologists. Neither of the first two suggested an implant as an option for treating my ED. There was a gap of around 10 years between when I met with the third urologist in February of 2020 and the second urologist. All three were within easy driving distance of my home.
My appointment with my doctor was because I was in a pretty desperate state; he was in my insurance network; and he specializes in ED. When he introduced me to the option of an implant, I knew that was what I wanted.
I didn't really consider another urologist after that appointment. He gave me a choice no one else had. He is very knowledgeable. He has a great sense of humor and is easy to talk to--by the end of the appointment I was telling him how I would have liked to fuck the hot, young receptionist of the department if I could.
I did do a little research on him after the appointment. I learned he has a top rating by Coloplast. And I found and read published articles he had written or co-written on implant issues. Doing that helped me know almost for sure.
After I got approval from my insurance company for the operation and had set a date, I had a pre-op appointment with my doctor. I asked him how frequently he did implant operations. He told me he did five to nine per month. This cemented my confidence in him because I knew he was regularly doing this procedure and had a lot of experience.
