Hi FT community,
Just getting prepped for an upcoming surgery with Eid in NY. Traveling from Canada. Had a few questions in advance (I've asked Eid as well...while waiting for his response, would love to hear from this group too!)
1) Anything I can do before surgery to minimize infection risk (eg specific type of soap)
2) Any items I should buy now for when I get home after surgery?
Ice packs, specific type of underwear, access to bath, etc.
3) if surgery is Friday, was thinking of staying until the following Sunday.
- for those who have been to Eid, is that sufficient time to get in some "practice" sessions with him inflating / deflating? I feel like I'd take some comfort from being close to his office.
4) Are there any hotels Eid patients would particularly recommend in NYC?
- Any specific asks of the hotel (e.g. scrub the tub daily, etc.)
5) fair to assume Eid's office will provide all the painkillers etc. before surgery?
6) I had discussed using the older titan pump with Eid given I'm a younger guy. For revisions in future, if a doctor chooses a newer pump, does it mean coloplast would not honor the warranty?
7) in the worst case scenario of infection, what would be the typical process?

About the older pump, which one is it exactly? And what are the stats on its reliability?
Please post the PM answers here, the community will be very grateful. Im just as curious!

Re: Upcoming Surgery with Eid
Endoftheline -- sure thing -- here are my answers though I should emphasize that they reflect only my experience with Eid, others may have other answers or opinions which I respect:
1) Anything I can do before surgery to minimize infection risk (eg specific type of soap)
they will tell you about a special soap for you to buy
2) Any items I should buy now for when I get home after surgery?
Ice packs, specific type of underwear, access to bath, etc.
I found that bags of frozen peas were best for icing
3) if surgery is Friday, was thinking of staying until the following Sunday.
- for those who have been to Eid, is that sufficient time to get in some "practice" sessions with him inflating / deflating? I feel like I'd take some comfort from being close to his office.
I stayed till Monday and would recommend it -- you could see him Monday morning and have him remove the catheter and address any problems or questions
4) Are there any hotels Eid patients would particularly recommend in NYC?
- Any specific asks of the hotel (e.g. scrub the tub daily, etc.)
The Gardens by Affinia is the best by far -- right across the street from the hospital -- though expensive. Otherwise they say the Bentley is good.
5) fair to assume Eid's office will provide all the painkillers etc. before surgery?
Yes
6) I had discussed using the older titan pump with Eid given I'm a younger guy. For revisions in future, if a doctor chooses a newer pump, does it mean coloplast would not honor the warranty?
don't know -- I got the new pump and it is great
7) in the worst case scenario of infection, what would be the typical process?
don't know -- but his infection rate is less than 1% so I wouldn't worry
You are making an excellent choice with Eid. My recovery was a complete nothing burger -- no pain, swelling or bruising.
