How to tackle the insurance maze

Postby ivtacres » Tue Sep 11, 2012 9:41 am

I think we need to have an insurance discussion forum. Its so hard to get the insurances to pay for this procedure and what about medicare and how to maneuver within that maze of confusion. What do you guys think?

Great Idea! I want to get an implant but the insurance doesn't cover it. I've been all the way to my State Dept. that governs insurance companies here in Oregon. I have a personal policy with Regence Blue Cross of OR. They exclude ALL ED treatments for any reason. The State looked at it and agreed that it is not fair but perfectly legal for them to do it that way. I looked at switching companies but with my history forget that. Most of the other companies I looked at had the same exclusions anyway. Nothing will change until we get insurance and government to recognize that how important sex is to your physical and mental health.

I have relatively good coverage for ED meds from my company's group insurance policy. As I understand it, the company decides what is covered and the insurance co follows their decisions. I am allowed 18 Viagra tablets ( I order 100 mgs and cut them) per 75 days - $80. They are currently covering a 90 day supply of TImix provided I use an approved (provides costing breakdown of each component) compounding pharmacy - $40. I do not believe they have their act together regarding the quantity because they let me tell them how much I need - ten 2ml vials.

Point to ponder: health insurance companies don't have a vested interest in including or excluding any given coverage for a particular individual or group policy. As long as they can run the numbers on any given risk, they are happy to charge the appropriate premiums to cover that risk. Translation: they'd all be delighted to cover penile implants, provided we would be willing to pay the premiums. It's really that simple.
