Stitches came out too early
Hey guys I’m about 5 weeks post op and about a week ago a few stitches at the base came undone but I just continued to use ointment. Fast forward to last night-the pump started feeling like it was being dragged down and a good amount of pain. Just got out of bed and there’s discharge coming out from the opening. I’m assuming I’ll have to get it restitched.

Is the discharge blood is it a yellowish discharge . If it’s the latter then you need to see your surgeon ASAP to rule out infection.
If it’s blood, it really depends on how much and if it has now cleared up.
Part of my stitches came undone at 3.5 weeks and drew blood , I kept an eye on it by pressing a sheet of toilet paper against the wound to check for blood or discharge and after a few hours it stopped and has been fine.
If you are cycling I would stop and also not have a bath and re-assess in a weeks time. Also a good idea to speak to your surgeon and also send him a photo so he can assess the severity.

Think my surgeon had me apply an antibiotic ointment for the first 2 weeks.

Stitches are USUALLY the dissolving ones, and you will find them all over the place when you least expect it.
Like what was said earlier, if its blood, keep an eye on it, if its discharge....see doc ASAP!
Call your doc and describe symptoms, but if discharge, he/she will probably say come in.

Ditto on the discharge advice. Also, if the area is warmer to the touch than normal get immediate medical attention, especially if your body temperature is higher than normal. If not your regular Doctor or Surgeon, get to an emergency room!Vetteman wrote:Hey guys I’m about 5 weeks post op and about a week ago a few stitches at the base came undone but I just continued to use ointment. This (fever, discharge, etc) is DANGEROUS and an hour or two can make a difference. You don't want to lose the implant, or worse, select body parts.

Re: Stitches came out too early
I agree to see a doctor right away, it happened to me. But at the ER they told me they would not restitch it. They said to apply a antibiotic and just let it heal up. It scared me also, but keep it dry and let a scab form over it. Very small amount of clindamycin was prescription for my issue. After a few days it started healing up.
Problems like that can be caused because a person starts cycling before things are healed up. Got to give the body time to heal completely or else problems could show up.

Don't think I had stitches, thought he glued me shut. If I did have stitches they dissolved on their own I guess. I was too sore to poke around much down there until 6 weeks post. Just followed docs orders.
However I agree with comments here. If you are having any discolored discharge from the incision get to a doctor asap.

Re: Stitches came out too early
Small update-laying in bed I don’t feel much pain but as soon as I stand up it feels like the pump is 100lbs or being pulled down. Also noticed that it hurts to lay on my side and that’s when discharge would come out of the opening. Laying on my back with ointment on the opening seems to stop the issue. Although today I’ve had a headache and chills for hours. Going to call my doc tomorrow.

Chills? Call your doc right now or get to emergency room.
