Hey everyone.
I’m new here but an active member on peyronies.com
But of background, I’m a 36 year old type one diabetic and over the last 3 years my peyronies has gotten progressively worse. I currently have a 75 degree dorsal curve which makes penetration near impossible.
I had seen three urologists prior to seeing dr Michael Fraser in Glasgow and liked his approach and have my implant booked for February 8th!
I’m super excited as it will give me back my life and my manhood but am obviously nervous at the same time, primarily infection due to the higher risk of my diabetes.
I am generally fit and healthy not overweight, don’t drink an awful lot and have recently stopped smoking. What advice would you guys give to limit the risk of infection and make the operation as successful as possible? Eg - foods I should or shouldn’t eat, things I should or shouldn’t do etc.
Also, I’m an estate agent, how long am I likely to be off work assuming there are no major complications?
Thanks

Re: Operation implant!
As for infection risk. I think for diabetics. They like to see your A1C below 7. But I think a guy on here got an implant at around 8. As I recall, his recovery was a bit more difficult than most members but that might not be fron the high A1C.
I'm type 2, A1C was at 6.8. My surgeon wasn't concerned at all.

Re: Operation implant!
The first thing is to get yourself as healthy as possible with your medical conditions as controlled as you can get them. And get as much exercise as you can. You will be (should be) flat on your back as much as possible the first 3 days and I had a 10lb weightlifting restriction for some time. Ask your doctor about the surgery technique used and any special prep used.
I was concerned and read of doctors using alcohol prep and even having you soak in a bathtub with 1 cup of bleach added. My doctor did not do the bleach, but I made a routine for the surgery. First, I use Dial Gold antibacterial soap for showering. And I used alcohol wipes after showering to wipe down my scrotum, penis and surrounding area. Prior to surgery I bought new white cotton towels and underwear, grey sweatpants and a second jock strap. As close as I could to the surgery, I washed these in hot water with bleach and straight from the dryer they went into sealed bags so they would be protected for picking up anything. The morning of my surgery I added Hibiclens to my routine. I showered with Dial. Then used the Hibiclens to wash a second time from my belly button to my knees. Then used the alcohol wipes. Used one of the towels to dry with. Took one pair of the underwear and the sweatpants out for the trip to the surgery. After the surgery you will be bandaged up some no trouble with wearing the same clothes at discharge. For both my surgeries I was instructed to use Bacitracin ointment and sterile 4x4 gauze pads for wound care. And used the alcohol wipes to clean the surrounding area but not the incision. For icing I would use one of the hand towels I had washed and sealed to wrap the dried beans I used for ice packs. This way there was no risk of any moisture that might have germs getting close or on the incision. When cleared for showering again dial soap, drying with another new towel for a sealed bag, alcohol wipe for the area surrounding the incision, and the new jock strap. I think my discharge instruction said 5 days for the jock strap, but I could be wrong, and doctors differ. And of course, proper wound care with ointment and bandage. After the jock strap is no longer required then the cleaned and bagged underwear. You can do as much of this as you like. But it is based on a statement by a well-known doctor that many men who have infection with this surgery brought it in the OR with them. If you have a tub you use the bleach soak is for 30 minutes and I think 3 days prior to the surgery. But not on the day of the surgery.
