Pump Placement - In Front or Behind?

Postby RoninRiff » Fri Dec 10, 2021 3:23 pm

Some doctors seem to offer the option of pump placement either in front of or behind the testicles. For those bionic brothers with placement in front of the scrotum and those with placement behind, would you share your experience and the pros and cons you have noticed?

Mine is in front. It is very comfortable when the implant is not in use ;) . I don't feel it when I sit or when I side-sleep, but being in front of testicles, it can felt easily.

Mine is behind, tight against my body and low in the sack. You cannot see it and I have no problem sitting or even crossing my legs. The only negative I have from my placement is that it was difficult to pump and deflate at first. I have that easily mastered now. I have to reach below my right ball with my thumb and above it with my fingers. I am very pleased with this location.

For the first 3 or 4 months following surgery, my pump was in back, very high in my sac. It felt like it was entering that empty space our balls were in before they dropped. It was hard to reach and operate. I did the recommended tugging and suddenly the pump was lower in my sac, behind my right nut, where it stays when my sac is tight. Now, when the sac is relaxed, it just floats around wherever it wants to go. Very comfortable, easy to use.

mine is behind and in a place that it would be hard for a woman to find -- unless they are really feeling my scrotum up. Different surgeons place the pump in different places. I think if you have really good hands and are younger, they go for hiding it behind the testicles. If you are older and have arthritis and not great tactile talent, then they put it in front so it is easy access.
Some say that the pump placement is the trickiest part of the procedure to get just right. It is why some surgeons prefer the peno-scrotal apaproach

Mine is in the back. I have a very large scrotum and testicles and I have long tubing to the pump. Very easy to move it up between my testicles and I go above my left testicle with my left hand to hold the tubing going into the pump and operate the pump with my right hand.

6 months after my first surgery I went on a rugged 4x4 off road trip and I did have a bit of pain from the pump slamming down on the underside of my scrotum on the seat. That has not been a problem on other trips since then.
