My path to the implant club

Postby boots1959 » Mon Mar 29, 2021 11:12 pm

Started experiencing ED in my 20's, never really a cònsistent problem until hitting my 50's. Got to the point of needing Viagra or similiar to get an erection hard enough for sex. Even with Viagra or similiar if I stopped during intercourse I would lose the erection.

Diagnosed with Prostate cancer in early 2019, underwent robotic prostate removal; nerve sparing; on 6th June 2019.

After surgery I had zero ability to get an erection, no engorgement whatsoever. I was also concerned about the loss of size from the surgery, my penis felt as if it was pulled back and quite hard when flaccid. So I started researching penis size after prostate removal. I didn't like what I was reading so investigated measures of reducing loss of length after prostate removal.

VED erection devices seemed to fit the bill, I had used them in the past and was familiar with them. I bought and started using one 5 weeks after my surgery. I am retired so was able to use daily up until my implant surgery in January this year.

I found the VED to be very successful in regaining lost length post surgery and even better than that I have gained length over what I had as a younger man. Girth is still to regain presurgery measurements but heres hoping.
I was always 13.5cm length and 12cm in girth in my younger days. When using the VED 16 cm bone pressed was the regular length on the gauge of the device. Girth also increased noticeably while using it.

Using the VED for sex I found it would give me a really good erection, but I had to use 2 constriction rings, and if I bumped them during intercourse my erection would lose some hardness each time I did that. Sometimes I could finish, other times not due to lost hardness and sex became an exercise in frustration.

So in discussions with my urologist I was referred to a surgeon who did penile implants and had the surgery. I was not nervous, I knew I could not go back, but going back to a penis that did not work at all made the implant a no brainer. I had nothing to lose.

Surgery went well, recovery was uncomfortable mainly for the 1st 2-3 weeks along with 5 weeks of a partially inflated penis. Imagine that, a 5 week erection after being totally impotent for 20 months. I was eager to try out my new found potency.

After 6 weeks I was given the green light to have sex with my wife. What was it like, fantastic yes, but most of all what a relief. No more worrying about wether it would get up or stay up, I felt like I was 18 again. I would have the operation again in a heartbeat.

Size wise I am 15.5 cm erect length bone pressed and 11.5 cm girth. I am cycling daily and would be happy to stay at same length I am now but get a little bit more girth back. My surgeon told me after surgery that he put a 4cm longer implant in me than the average he does. I was stoked as I have always been below average in the size department. Also great to have a shower when flaccid and not the turkey neck I had before.

I hope my experience is a help to others. I will end this post stating I am not a medical professional ymmv.

Thanks AussiePete. Absolutely one of the best decisions for me as well, particularly as I went to see a urologist for my ED and was diagnosed with prostate cancer; (psa 2.7 at the time). Which I had to have treatment for before anything could be done for ED.

3 and half month update;
I thought I might provide an update on my progress. I am have recovered well from my surgery, I am past the stage of penis placement discomfort but still get occasional twinges in the area.

I had robotic prostate removal surgery in 2019, my recovery from this was a cakewalk compared to the implant surgery. I stopped taking painkillers 4 days after prostate surgery. The worst pain after prostate surgery was the gas used in surgery giving me pain in my shoulders, that really caned.

With the implant surgery I had major discomfort, sitting or laying down, wearing pants/underwear, standing for long periods of time and sleeping. I used painkillers for a couple of weeks, mainly nurofen. I cut holes in 7 pairs of jockey type underwear to poke my penis through while the underwear was necessary to support my scrotum. Even so it was very uncomfortable. I also used rolled up handtowels as support under my scrotum when sitting or lying down which gave a fair degree of immediate pain relief.

Most of the surgery induced pain had really abated by the 3-4 week mark post surgery. However I had been inflated at around 50% since surgery and it wasn't until my 5 week follow up appointment where I was deflated and advised to start cycling that I really started to feel comfortable. The deflation was such a relief with being able wear underwear and pants normally as well as going out into public and not having to worry about wether people could see the bulge in my pants.

With cycling I am seeing consistent length gains. I am keeping records monthly and have gained half a centimetre in april. Very happy with that. I used 2 ved devices pre surgery, a manual 1 which broke but I could get 17cm bone pressed with it. An automatic one which gave me 16cm bone pressed. I am currently 16cm and suspect that I may eventually get to 17cm which would be awesome as at 16cm I am longer than I ever was naturally. I would love to get a girth ncrease, time will tell.

In essence I am very happy with my results, for fellow members in the early days and weeks of recovery, hopefully this post helps. Give your healing time.
Cheers boots.
