Heading to NY Probably for a week
(Three days before Procedure for
Covid protocols and a few days after)

I’ll be in a hotel alone and will have to fly back three days after the surgery

Guys
Do I have to pull out my own catheter??

I would ask for one of Dr Eid's staff to help with catheter removal. I believe they do that anyway, but best to be sure.

I would ask the airline (well in advance) for a courtesy wheelchair (especially for transfer if you will be changing planes). You will be perfectly able to walk after surgery, but riding in a chair will be a lot more comfortable and your crotch bulge will require no explanations.

I agree with Lost Sheep, I believe during your follow up with Dr Eid they will remove the catheter. However i am sure a call to his office can confirm this.

If I were you, I'd try to stay at least 7 days in a hotel.

For what it's worth, I took out the catheter myself, at home the next day. Deflated it per instructions and it slid right out. No pain whatsoever, and peeing afterward was also painless. You got this!

I, too, was sort of alone after surgery but in my case I did it by choice.

I was scheduled for New Years Eve. My wife had a trip planned to go see her sister and that side of the family from the 29 Dec - 4 Jan. I knew if I told her she would cancel trip so I didn’t tell her I was scheduled.

On the 30th, with wife across state lines, I called and told her “remember that surgery to fix my ED we talked about? They can take me on the 31st and it won’t cost us anything since we have met our out of pocket cap. She wanted to head home but I reassured her it was a simple, day surgery outpatient procedure. I told her I might not even have anesthesia beyond a local (a little white lie, but I didn’t want to spoil her trip and I didn’t need family seeing bruised, swollen genitalia.

I got a buddy to drive me to/from hospital (60 miles each way) because post anesthesia the hospitals are bad about not letting patient drive. We went thru a drive thru (Chik Fil A) where I ate a big lunch and took two pain pills. Thus at dinner time I wasn’t terribly hungry and had soup and a bowl of ice cream.

Made it home, I stretched out on couch and told buddy he could split. My only real issues were letting a lively 6 month old border collie pup in and out. He did come by to check that evening but I was fine. By early evening I was up to driving over to my elderly mom’s to reassure her I wasn’t dead.

I was able to drive 200 miles the next day to get son and bring him home, but I was bruised pretty bad so I suggested he stay with his grandmother a couple of days, he hadn’t seen her in a while.

We all handle this differently but I never felt like I was trying to do too much, too soon nor did I feel like anything was being overlooked.

Had I needed it, help was a phone call away. I healed up fine and have (in my opinion) a great result.

Don’t be afraid to call someone to help if you need it but don’t be afraid to do things for yourself that won’t impair your healing. Talk to the doctor at length about do’s And dont’s.

I realize this isn’t trimming a hangnail but it’s not delicate neurosurgery or a quintuple bypass, either. In the pioneer days women had babies at lunchtime and were expected to have supper on the table for the men that evening. Barring complications, I think you’ll be surprised at how simple self care is.

Keep the plastic urinal they have at the hospital. Peeing while inflated is a challenging exercise in target shooting. You will appreciate all the help you can get. Sure, go tho the bathroom, but pee in the urinal and pour the urine into the toilet.
