Coloplast Titan: any metal parts?

Postby strongagain » Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:23 am

Are there any metal parts? Have a look at the image please. What is that around the hose? I‘m asking because I‘m interested in the use of an electric stimulation device. In order to train the pelvic floor. One can only use the device if there aren‘t any metal parts.

I believe both major manufacturers, Coloplast and Boston Scientific (AMS) may use only miniscule springs in the pump that may be some sort of metal although what you're looking at on the tubing is not metal. I believe it's markings that denote the reservoir tube.

It appears that their are springs in the pump valve. I also believe there is reinforcement in the tubing from the reservoir to the pump, this is to keep it from collapsing when pulling fluid from reservoir to the pump.

Every source I've heard from (coming from memory, can't cite references), state that there are only tiny springs in the pump and there is only a very small affect to MRI scans and they have to use a lowered gauss level as a result of them. What appears to be metal reinforcement of the reservoir tube is very doubtfully metal but more likely a marking only to ensure proper connection to the pump in situ. IMO, at the very most it would be some sort of reinforcement of a non-metallic nature, maybe polyester (which is what Dacron is made from).

There is some metal in the Coloplast Titan. I just had to research that prior to a MRI. However it's some metal called MP35N, and as stated the MRI must be done in a specific field. There is also a small amount of silver in there. Here's the link to MRI safety from Coloplast- https://www.coloplastmd.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/MRI-Compatibility-10_23_18.pdf

When you get a Titan, you are given a mock up keychain of the Titan itself AND a key tag saying that before you get an MRI, make sure to mention the implant before you get the MRI, just in case. The Key tag has information on it about metal content.

Has anyone had a negative experience with an MRI?

I had no issues with a recent MRI of my lower back. Not my first MRI and felt no difference, just dang loud.

Lol....MRIs are not loud to me, well, maybe in the beginning, but I usually end up sleeping, go figure!

The pump comes preconnected to the cylinders and the only connection that needs made is to the reservoir, so not sure why they would need to identify the tubing for that. And it could be a simple line not a spiral that is going around the lumen of the tubing. The tubing between the reservoir and the pump is the only place there is negative pressure in the system. As the pump reexpands there is negative pressure in that tubing to pull fluid from the reservoir. The Lock Out valve prevents accidental inflation, it is designed that fluid must be pulled from the reservoir to open valve. Without negative pressure this valve will not allow fluid to be drawn from the reservoir. A spiral wire around the lumen would provide the necessary support to prevent the collapse of the lumen. I am guessing it is made of the alloy mp35n since it is mentioned in the documentation. IMHO
