Doc consult Nov 23

Postby SteveSW » Mon Nov 16, 2020 4:06 pm

After a ton of research on FT about what to look for, what I need to know, questions to ask I have an appointment in a week with an implant doctor here in St Louis. I talked to the AMS patient advocate, the Boston Scientific rep and a couple of the doctors previous patients. All were positive about him, and he is a moderately busy implant surgeon. So, I am approaching this like an interview and I may or may not give him the job. I need to thank all of the men here on FT for all the experience, knowledge and support they have freely given.

There is one rub however. The local hospitals have all suspended all elective surgeries until further notice. This has been a long complicated journey to reach this point, and having waited until retirement and Medicare to make it possible financially, blam! Nope, not anytime soon Steve, even if the doctor says I'm a candidate given the large Peyronie's plaque, hinging and narrowing of the shaft.

They just confirmed the consultation appointment, so I guess I can move forward at least that much. Sigh.
20 years of severe Peyronie's plaque, 90 curve, hinging and ED. Cost me 1.5" L and 1" G.
Implanted 2/18/21, AMS CX, 18 CM + 3 RTE, penoscrotal. Have gained 3/4". Gay, married, age 68.

Don't give up hope yet. Most cosmetic doctors & even some general surgeons will use a non hospital surgical center. I'm sure that they have a backup plan for a normal hospital if something goes amiss.
This is what my doctor told me in July. Basically he said that he'll try to get a surgery room with the hospital that he is affiliated with. The hospital has a review board that allocates surgery dates based upon some criteria. Seriousness of the condition or frequency of a complication was to occur. Do they have bedspace to spare that isn't held in reserve for normal emergencies & Covid cases.
If a surgery room, for whatever reason, isn't available. He will check with a non hospital surgery center. These facilities specialize in less serious surgeries. They generslly are not set up for patients to spend more than overnight there.
My wife had an oral surgery for apnea in one. Not a bad option in my mind.
Consult with your doctor. He knows the system & he also wants to perform his trade.
