I just celebrated one year on Halloween (hollow-weenie?). Some reflections:
The surgery itself was relatively pain-free: I would say "sore" was as bad as it got. Pretty significant bruising and very scabby after dressing removal. Shocking to see but quickly resolved. I managed to peel off the scabs.
Observation for 23 hours then discharge after catheter removal. Never used the oxycodone or tylenol. I'm lucky, I guess. No drain was placed.
Surprisingly horny. I managed to masturbate with a relatively soft dick. I'm sure my surgeon would not recommend this, but no harm was done. My scrotal incision was weeping a bit. Liquid bandage seemed to help. No evidence of infection.
Did not start cycling until week 6: EXTREME DISAPPOINTMENT on first full inflation!! And extremely uncomfortable. My size has mostly recovered over the subsequent six months, btw. Keep at it.
Masturbation was ok (skin was hypersensitive at times, and not in a good way). Also: Significant NUMBNESS on the underside, which was very concerning. I was told this would PROBABLY resolve over time, and it did over the next six months or so.
Penetration was very painful. This did not resolve for six months or so. I think my healing process was longer than usual.
I was told that my erectile tissue would be destroyed and that I would never have a natural erection again.
This was kind of not true. I still get morning "wood" and can masturbate without pumping at all. Granted: it's not super hard and could not penetrate, but it is certainly good for a rub out. It should be noted that I still have my prostate and was having successful erections with trimix before my surgery. I still get glans engorgement if sexually-stimulated.
CONS: because it's saline-filled, my penis can get cold after awhile. Flaccid state can feel a little artificial. Full inflation or over-inflation can result in loss of sensitivity. Pumping discreetly can be interesting, esp with a new partner. If someone is playing with your balls, they will definitely feel the hardware.
PROS: A sexual confidence I have never had in my life. This pretty much trumps the negatives. Guaranteed erection whenever you need one, and for however long you want. It took me six months to stop regretting my decision, but I got there with some determination. Is it exactly like a natural hard-on? No, it isnt, in my opinion. But after one full year, I'm pretty happy with my decision.

Congrats. I passed one year on 10/28. Similar pros and cons although my non-SO partner (FWB) knows about mine so pumping discreetly is not an issue for him.

Im glad you mentioned having pain during sex and loss of sensitivity when fully inflated. I attempted sex last Sunday (two months post) and it was not comfortable. I was a bit distraught, but hoped things would loosen up after a few more months of aggressive cycling. Gives me hope to hear things got better for you six months post surgery.
