Day 6

Postby truckrglenn » Mon Oct 12, 2020 1:48 pm

First Post:

Day 6 and I'm sitting uncomfortably on the couch with an ice pack. Had the AMS700 LGX 21cm implanted last Tuesday October 6th, 2020. I had done a little research about the Implant and Procedure. Unfortunately, I didn't do a lot of research about the post surgery aspect of the Procedure.

The first couple of days I didn't use an ice pack. Stay high as hell and slept for two days. My girlfriend is still stuck in Brazil because of the covid. My cousin brought me home and will stop by if I ask him to. The hospital gave me a half sheet of only basic aftercare information.

Day 2 I went to the Dr's office and had the catheter removed by one of his associates. Then told, we'll see you in 4 weeks. I was still too high to comprehend much. Peed red urine for 2 days before it completely cleared up. Woke up Saturday morning and peed almost straight blood. I'm the tough guy so I went back to bed. After a few hours, tried to pee again, after 3 long blood clots I've been urinating normally. My guess is that they used a hammer to make sure that the catheter was in securely.

I switched to 4 ibuprofen and 2 acetaminophen on day 3. I'm an addict and felt the disease raising its ugly head but I've avoided the urges. Today I will flush the remaining pills.

The worst part so far has been having to wear this stupid jockstrap 24/7. The irritation, rubbing, pinching and poking is almost unbearable at times. Standing up and the walking to the kitchen or bathroom is the worst. I started wearing the jockstrap on the outside of my underwear with a few extra gauze pads.

Hopefully as more swelling goes down, it'll become less painful. I was going to post a couple post op pictures, but wasn't sure if I should.

If anyone reads this, thanks for reading.

Thanks for asking our advice and sharing your story. Welcome to the forum.

If you trust your cousin with them, I would not flush the pills but have your cousin hold them. Maybe lock them in a box in one of your living spaces or the other. The one in possession would not have the key and the one with the key would not have possession. In that way, if you really need them i the near future, you have access with your cousin as a control factor.

I peed a couple of small blood clots after a couple of days. Slightly alarming. I called my surgeon's office and got assurance. Your experience would have freaked me out.

Posting pictures is OK. Clinically informative. Sex shots are essentially useless, so not encouraged.

I wore the jock strap for quite a while but used a LOT of gauze padding to be comfortable. I also did not bother trying to sit up, but stayed horizontal as much as possible. Lessens the tendency for swelling, which, in turn, will speed recovery and enhance comfort.

Cool packs help with the pain and swelling, but you already know that. But not so much that you inhibit healing blood flow. Check with your surgeon's office for advice.

Remember also that the manufacturer's Patient Liaison is there, at your service and free of charge to advise (not medical advice, but the P.L. has had a LOT of experience talking patients through their questions).

I read then experienced that the pain and discomfort diminishes greatly after 14 days. Hang in there.

I'm certainly feeling better then day 3-5.

Thanks for the reply and information. I've read enough to know that some of extreme pain and swelling yet others experience hardly any pain. But was hopeful that I wasn't going to be on the side of pain. I will start using even more gauze pads. Thank goodness for Amazon next day delivery.

I took a lot of gauze home from the hospital. They were very generous. I also took home the portable urinal. Very convenient to urinate in that and then pour the contents into the toilet.

My degree of comfort was partly due to staying horizontal, not just because gravity is easier on one's genitals that way, but I simply did not move around much, so there was little friction on my genitals.

You did not mention how your torso feels. Where my reservoir was placed was VERY sore and complained most emphatically whenever I tried to rise from my bed. I had to plan each movement very carefully for 2 or three days. After that, it got easier. My implant was done penoscrotal. I understand going in infra-pubic is a bit easier on placement of the reservoir, but harder on the scrotum.

My torso feels great. I thought that's where the reservoir was supposed to be. Mine feels like it's just above my penis in the my fat pad. I haven't asked.

I spoke with the Patient Liaison from the Nashville just before my surgery. She spoke very highly of my urologist surgeon Dr. Hasan. And as you know the Patient Liaison is in the operating room during the procedure.

My couch is also my storage area for medicine and paperwork. May I'll push it off to the floor so that I can lay down. I never thought about that.

I never even got off my back much the first week. Laid flat and ice. That way blood does not pool in your crotch. I was pumped up pretty good so just laid over on my side and used little Johnny. No way I was using a toilet. Some people just talk about peeing in the shower the first few days. I did walk a lot though. It helped to move around, then back to flat on my back.

Keep it strapped to your belly. I was told not to press it down till I saw the doc. Tight boxer briefs and put a folded up washrag between my dick and the briefs after the first week.

Each week gets better. Hang in there.

The reservoir should be inside your abdomen next to the bladder in the pelvic area, but yes it's right there where your fat pad is, just not under the skin, more deeply inside.

After talking with my cousin I realized that I answered the question about my torso incorrectly. And when it's stated that the reservoir is in the abdomen, i thought that they meant just below the stomach.

Correct answer: My torso was very very painful.
To the gentleman who mentioned laying down. Wow what an idea. Lol. Laying down has increased my comfort level and has led to decreased swelling.

I can now use the word sore instead of hurting. But as my ex mother in-law pointed out I have a very high tolerance for pain. A week anf a half after my triple bypass 6 years ago I was out riding my motorcycle. Yes I have an overwhelming desire to ride, but will wait for the ok from my Dr..

Thanks
