Issues After First Deflation

Postby hopeful_future » Thu Sep 03, 2020 1:16 am

Figure this makes sense to break out into its own thread. Probably calling the doc about this tomorrow as well.

Since deflating for the first time this morning, I've had bouts of pain in the lower left abdominal quadrant. At first I thought I just had really bad gas or needed to pass some stool, but nothing was working its way through. I cycled midday, and noted that things reinflated pretty quickly to about 50%. I squeezed it back down again, but the same occurred. After that, I had similar pain, and when I went to feel my abdomen, the left side was solid like a rock (abdominal rigidity or "guarding" reflex). It cramped and hurt for a while, then got better.

Later still, I was at my computer for a while, with my not particularly flaccid penis, folded back. When I straightened it, I was hit by another wave of pain, probably 6 or 7 on the pain scale, wasn't able to do much but hobble around hoping for it to go. Massaging the inguinal area (the crease of the groin) on the left side helped dull the pain. Went through with my bath and cycle, and noted the spontaneous reinflation again.

If I were to hazard a guess, maybe I healed up around the reservoir too quickly (I was sent home erect), and now it's very unhappy when I deflate and push more fluid in there? If it's too tight, that could explain both the pain and the re-inflation? If anyone has any similar experience or suggestions, please let me know.

Appreciate it! Take care, folks!

I will closely follow this thread, as I am also set for deflation in a few days. My pump somehow migrated on the left side of my scrotum and finding it difficult to pull it down, with mild force. As the area is still tender, I am afraid to apply blunt foce.
Best of luck.

It may just be discomfort around the reservoir unrelated to pseudocapsule formation. Even to this day, over 10 months after my 10/28/19 implantation, I get some odd pains and soreness in my lower left abdomen, right where my reservoir should be. It's not very intense, more like a dull ache but it's annoying.

For sure, I'd recommend conferring with your doctor in case your pain is not normal but I wouldn't get to panicked about it because you are still healing in that area and 10 days is not a long time. You will be healing for a while. Remember, the doctor had to create a small hernia in your abdomen to place the reservoir. Your abdominal muscles are still healing where he made the hole.

Thanks, this is good to know. Not too panicked, though my use of the pain scale is sort of...5 and below is tolerable, above is intolerable, so hanging at a 6-7 for much longer would have had me starting to panic.

Appreciate the responses as always!

I to had a bit of discomfort from the reservoir. I could feel it and knew it was there for a long time. I am coming up on 2.5 years and do not notice it now but I did for the first year or so. It would even do some auto inflate during that time. So I would put a 1-3 pumps in after deflating to prevent more going back in. I have read of others with reservoir discomfort so I think that is normal. And also about the auto inflate and the putting a pump or 3 in to prevent. Not all have auto inflate but in case you do FYI.

Take care. You are getting closer to the reward. Keep up the cycling.

From my reading, the pump to prevent autoinflate is one of the most hotly debated topics on the board! Well, not really, but I see plenty of advice either way about it. I'll give it a shot! Seeing is believing after all.

Thanks for the advice and for sharing your experience with it. A lot of the pain and weird sensations are way more manageable if I know they're normal, or at least not way abnormal. Sent a message to the doc as well, and I'll share their answer here too.

I was kept inflated for 3 weeks to about 60 percent or so before I was deflated for the first time. Then I just started cycling twice a day to the max for about 30 minutes each time. I know some on here were kept inflated for even longer, and i do not remember them having an issue with the reservoir. These things are really quirky though at times.

I would say like the others. If you are not comfortable call your doctor and let them know. I was concerned about an issue and just made an appt to go in. It is my body after all and I felt better talking to him. That was the nice thing about a local uro for my revision, and not having to spend 4 hours traveling in a car to see him like the first time.

Yeah, it was 70% for 1 week inflated for me. Not sure what is pissing my lower abdomen off, but when it hurts, oh man does it hurt. It's like a super intense cramp, and the abdominal surface becomes rock hard. I have abs, but not like this! :D

Sent over a message online for now, I'm going to keep cycling for a few days and as long as it doesn't get worse, I'll take that as a good sign. If it gets worse or doesn't get better, I'll call directly. Would hate to have some intestine poking through the reservoir placement hole or something.

I had the left lower quadrant pain also, after deflating, and I can guarantee you it's the reservoir refilling that is causing it. your body isn't used to it yet. My discomfort went away after a few weeks, and I don't feel anything there now with inflating/deflating.

Thank you so much! My doc got back to me today (emailed him this morning), and he said "Yep, expected, keep cycling!"

Knowing it might be a few weeks is super helpful too, though. Pain is worst when you have no idea how long it will be there.
