Implant tomorrow question about getting in and out of bed?

Postby Jack317 » Wed Dec 25, 2019 8:33 pm

This might be a stupid question but I have a two bedroom apartment and the bedroom I sleep in has a mattress that is about 12" high or so and very firm. I don't have it on a box spring or bed frame because I have an old dog who likes to get up there and sleep with me. The other bed is a cheapo mattress from Amazon that I have up on a frame. It is higher off the ground and comfortable but not nearly as firm as the other. Am I better off sleeping on the taller bed for a few days so I don't have to push myself up or would the firmer mattress be better? I have good upper body strength not thinking I am going to be straining anything bad but wondering as I prepare to put on the new clean sheets recommended by hospital to help avoid infection. I could probably get the better mattress on the frame if it would be a big benefit I haven't checked the size.

Thinking about every little thing tonight as I get ready for implant tomorrow. Probably won't sleep a lot tonight.

Hey Jack - my opinion is you want to be higher off the ground. You will have some pain when trying to move, and getting up from a mattress that is only 12" off the floor is going to be painfull.

My 2 cents.

Remember the surgeon will be pushing the reservoir up into your abdominal cavity. The only time this is painful is when you contract your stomach muscles to try to get up from a chair or bed.

Yea I kind of figured higher was probably better. Hadn't really thought about engaging the abdominals and the reservoir. I will see if the big mattress fits the frame if not I will go with the higher bed.

Thanks.

Sure. It's actually a very good question. Let us know how else we can help.

The higher bed or even a recliner chair, if you have one, would be better than the low mattress.
I am 64 and had ED from a VL. Implanted by Dr. Ronald Anglade in Atlanta on 9/18/17. I have an AMS700LGX 21 cm via a Penoscrotal incision. Very happy with results. 6" soft and 6 3/4” x 5 5/8” hard.

Also remember that the post-op instructions will say to elevate your feet while in bed (believe me, 1st day, all you want to do is stay in bed, lol)...stack pillows 3 or 4 high and put your legs on them. Hope your dog, even with advanced age, does not get too comfy in terms of climbing onto you.
My best bud here has 3, the youngest is about 3 years old, chihuahua, has already jumped on the bed and I already protected my privates from her jumping.
He occasionally takes care of a Cocker Spaniel, and that one came very close to stepping on actual balls! 47 lbs of pure muscle is not exactly a joy to have jumping on you when you are hurting, lol

Again I appreciate all the advice and have raised the bed up on the stand. My old girl couldn't jump up there now if I left a pork chop on the bed. And I will get some more pillows to raise my legs.

You did remind me of when I had my prostatectomy in 2013 and she was a much younger, but still 90 pound dog. I had open cut surgery and was about 2 days out of hospital and still in a lot of pain with the catheter still in. I was in a pretty tall bed then and she came in and leaped right over me. I almost had a heart attack. If she would have missed, and I still can't believe she cleared me, it would have been bad. My sphincter tightens up just thinking about it. :D

And I almost went ballistic when my 1 year old kitty tried to pull on the bed bag tube after my Urolift surgery. I can't even imagine the potential issues with a larger animal along with a new incision.

After the issue with my cat and the bed bag tube, I got up immediately and got my elastic catheter leg strap (I have Foley catheters & supplies), to stabilize the tube that for unknown reasons was never taped down to my leg while in the surgical care center.

Last night,I was on the couch actually sleeping. No room for the Chihuahua to jump up on....or so I thought. She got the bright idea to use the little space I was not on as a leverage to jump up, and of course, it was right on my dick! Not my balls, I am pretty sure that would have resulted in her flying across the room and me and my bud fighting while I am in pain.
Later on, you are going to want to watch TV while on couch, make sure to cover/protect yourself with a pillow on your cock and balls. It will definitely blunt the blow if a paw should find its way there, lol.
Your balls are definitely going to be sore more so than your cock. Your balls were cut, tugged, and ruffly handled. Make sure your catheter bag in securely tied to your legs because it will be tempting for your dog just to sniff it and leave it alone (cats will want to play with it, lol)
