Anyone out there had the frequent urge to urinate about every 15 minutes while in bed at night. The urge to urinate is so strong you cannot sleep. I used 1 of those plastic bottles the hospital gives you. I filled the bottle almost to the top. Since getting up this morning that sensation to pee I had at bedtime has not occurred yet. I’ve been up about an hour drinking coffee & water for my meds, & no extreme urge to pee yet. My surgery was one week ago today. The surgeon removed the catheter and jp drain tube yesterday. My poor urethra has gone through hell over the last week.
Still having a lot of aches & pain, but trying not to take anymore pain pills.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

This may very well be a temporary result of the presence and withdrawal of your catheter. Drink lots of water and give yourself some time.
Best wishes!

Yes, as Mikestap said, keep hydrated. Getting up to urinate often is no inconvenience at all compared to some of the alternatives - bladder infection (and I don't know what else). Kidneys need to keep working. Your body needs to keep processing toxins and waste products and eliminating them.

Re: Strong Urge to Urinate every 15 minutes at bedtime?
Tomorrow will be the one week mark since my implant.... I'm not having urination urge as much as you but I am having it more than pre implant... 4 to 5 times a night as opposed to twice (before bed and middle of night) before. Taking Tramadol 50mg every 5 hours, which helps with pain alot but will run out in couple of days. My pain is now more like being pinched in various places. 60% inflation doesn't help matters as the unit refuses to "fold" except right or left some. Tempting to attempt deflate just to see what that is like and then reinflate, but afraid I'll burst into flames for the no no...

My catheter was removed on day 3 after surgery and for the next couple of days I experienced a real urgency to urinate. I'm pretty sure the urgency was a side effect of the catheter, so you will probably improve soon.
The other thing that can cause urgency is inflammation. Try taking an aspirin or another NSAID, that worked for me.

FWIW, mine was removed the next morning, which considering late afternoon surgery was possibly only 14 hours or so time difference. It was a requirement that I peed on my own before discharge from hospital of course. I can't imagine the thought if I had not peed and they had to put the tube back in my "already sore urethra" and wide awake state...the pain would have been excruciating....warrenw wrote:Bailey wrote:The surgeon removed the catheter and jp drain tube yesterday.
