This was the first for me.

Flew out of BWI on 10/3. 4 weeks post surgery and it showed up on the scanner. Told them I had a medical device, guy checked up my legs to my crotch. Only painful part was when he jammed his hand against my still tender sack. Didn't matter that I carry the wallet card from Boston Scientific. Rest of my flights were no problem.

It's much more about how you react to a pat-down than the pat-down itself.

Stay calm and quiet and it's all over in seconds. Get jumpy or start "asserting your rights" and you could be in for a long day.

I live in San Diego and cross the border into Tijuana once or twice a week. Home of some of the most corrupt police in the world. Their hands are down my pants in search of hidden cash all the time. It's just an expected short delay in my travels.

I guess I will be totally screwed as I have the following in my body:
- Internal steel, knee brace (ski accident)
- steel plate holding my clavicle together after a bike accident
- my Titan
- My prosthetic nuts (6 cm x 4.5 cm).

By the way, it would be nice if we kept religion out of these discussions, don't you think? It is supposed to be a safe place for all here.
58 year-old male. Married. on TRT since 2013.
Bionic as of October 17, 2025.
Coloplast Titan with OTR. 24 cm cylinder + 1 cm RTE
Old Length = 7.25". 8.25" in a vacuum tube. girth is 6.5". Waiting to see where I end up.

Terrorists blowing up planes is not a religion , it is a horrible act of deadly mass violence , that has been repeated over and over again . and it IS the very reason Americans are now scrutinized at airports who simply want to take a flight .
Acting like it is not the reason for Pat downs is denying reality.
he was checked because it was a possible new hiding place for a bomb , get over your weak, easily offended sensibility,s and face facts .
Bombs in shoes , that was thwarted . the bomb in the underwear ,thwarted . the bomb in the laptop ? also thwarted ?
so now, what better place for a crazy physco to hide a bomb then in his privates ?
I have taken a few flights outside usa and leaving and returning to usa .with several pieces of steel in my body ,and the scanners for me, make things easier . They see the medical steel pieces and wave me through . now with a malleable added to
that .and one fight from india back to the Philippines , there has been no issue.
Knock on wood.
American , retired in the philippines .
tactra malleable 13 mm ,in new delhi India . on april 2024

I agree with you 100% on the evils of terrorism.

I did not appreciate the expression you used "thank the islam aholes for that".

Otherwise, no problem whatsoever.

Hmm. I did a quick web search. I found 12 cases of attempted plane bombings by passengers. All twelve were by muslims. I won't call anyone an asshole, but there does appear to be a pattern, so I get the frustration.

As for the topic, I have been scanned lots of times and so far never had an issue. Occasionally I forget to take off my watch and they spot that, or a belt buckle, but they've never seemed particularly interested in my crotch. Maybe they were just being subtle, or maybe it never turned up? I don't know.

I was raised that it is rude to introduce religion or politics into a conversation. The OP didn’t.

I also know it’s useless to tell someone to NOT do something. They get defensive, and need to justify themselves often to the point of rudeness.

Instead I think it’s way more interesting to get back to the original post. PHILLY444, an older white gay man, fitting NONE of the typical security threat profiles was pulled aside, asked to expose his genitals, and touched.

This seems WAY MORE like the actions of a curious person than someone assessing a security risk.

I think we should all be on the lookout for any new profiles in the next few weeks that have “TSA” as part of the name.

PHILLY444 may have unwittingly done a great service with a show & tell to a man suffering from ED.

That's crazy Philly,
I have pre-check but I still self identify that I have an implant, so they will send me through the scanner. I do carry my AMS implant card in my wallet, just in case they want to know what kind of implant that I have.
I do have two total knee replacements too, I got those after my IPP implant in 23 and 24.
I have had them pat me down even after I've went through the scanner but it has usually been quick.
I've found that TSA at airports are really not standardized with their protocol, some are more strict when they find something and some just tell me to keep on going after I have identified that I have a implant.
It's been a year since we've flown, so I'm gonna be vigilant about self identifying and having my implant card ready.
Sorry that you had to go through that Philly,
