Why were you wanting your surgical notes? Are you having problems? :)

Larry

No problems I had an appointment with my local uro and wanted to bring them to him for my file. Everything is working just fine sometimes twice a day fine.
Dave

That makes sense... Here, when you first see a doctor that is not your family doctor, they ask you who you would like copied... It is not the patient that is responsible to do it. When the patient asks for copies, it usually costs and raises a lot of flags as to why you want them. :)

Sorry for not getting back but my schedule has been crazy.

Anyway, to answer Dave52...I received NOTHING from Coloplast, my surgeon, the surgical center or anyone else the day of my procedure. 3 1/2 weeks out, I still have received NOTHING. Only during my first week out follow-up with my surgeon did he tell me what the length of the cylinders were and how many RTEs he used. And he wouldn't have said anything except I had a list of a half dozen questions for him.

Now, on the positive side, I have utilized the Director of Surgical Services at the ambulatory surgery center to dig into the process V.U. uses. She said that as soon as all the information has been entered into my "operatory record", I can, then, get the data from the medical records unit. However, V.U. Medical Records outsources ALL their info to a third party named 'sharecare'. I will probably have to resubmit the paperwork to them through V.U. and wait until they repro it and mail it to me. She has done well by me so far, though, since I had a major, acute reaction to some drug I was given by I.V. that tore up my eyes after awakening in recovery that caused pinpoint pupils, burning, sand-like grit, pain, and continual tearing for over 9 hours after being discharged and lasted for over 48 hours. I couldn't see to get dressed, know what paperwork was signed by my wife and I was rushed out of the center without anyone attending to my pain and discomfort! The Director got me the list and amounts of all the drugs administered, the name of the anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist, and slammed the recovery nurses and supervisor who were assigned to me. That list will go with me to every doctor I see in the future with a warning to not give me any of them individually or in conjunction with any other drugs!

I'm STILL pissed!!

Pissed yes you should be the assholes that work in most of the healthcare field think that they are better than the people they treat and don’t want to ever be questioned about any thing. I totally believe it’s because of the lawyers in the world that are always looking to score on someone that didn’t get the care they were told they would get. The care givers that know that they goofed off are afraid to document any thing .Doctors like Eid are comfortable because they know that what they did was right and have no fear of being questioned. They know they can answer the questions

I'm putting this thread to bed. I emailed the Director of Surgical Services at Virginia Urology/ Stony Point last week Friday and explained my continuing issue. She checked and emailed back that I should call medical records on Monday morning again and ask specifically for the Operative Reports, EKG trace, etc. I did call back on Monday just after 9 am and spoke to Ciara who listened patiently while I laid out the story of my frustration. I mentioned the fact that the director was on my side with this request and Ciara promised to investigate and would respond to me NLT Tuesday at close of business. On Tuesday mid-afternoon, I received an email from Ciara WITH the surgeon's detailed, unaltered description of my procedure and the EKG trace showing my left bundle branch block that came back to haunt me from 2000. I was deemed OK and my implant was completed. For those purists, the link to find out the electrical problem in my heart (that has not impacted my life thus far one iota) is: https://www.cedars-sinai.org/health-lib ... block.html.

Per my 2018 New Years resolution, I immediately responded to Ciara with a glowing THANK YOU email to let her know how at peace I was since she helped me. I also CC'd the director on the same email to let her know how well Ciara had performed and how pleased I was.

For Dave52: No, I still don't know the details of the Titan unit that was installed, type of pump, size of the reservoir or any sticker serial numbers. I will ask those questions when I receive training from my surgeon's PA on 12/17. More later...

Thanks guys for keeping me honest and focused. I just can't comprehend why some surgeons don't think the product and process information is damned important to us on the receiving end.

There are peel and stick labels on the components. They are places on your surgical notes or the wallet card if they still give them out. :)

To bobsteel and Larry: I wanted the operative report to see what my surgeon included. I found that it was a basic narrative of what he did from start to finish in typical medical-speak. Matter of fact, the only place the words Coloplast and Titan are used is under the heading of "Operation:" (insertion of all 3 components of inflatable 3 piece penile prosthesis (Coloplast Titan), simple foley, scrotoplasty for penoscrotal webbing). So, now I know what I will ask the PA on 11/17 when he teaches me how to use the Titan (depending upon which model it is and the inflate/ deflate instructions). I'll also ask whether the hard copy notes (originals) that are, most likely, in my files with the surgeon include the stickers. All I want is the information. I did receive a very generic wallet multi-fold Patient Identification Card from Coloplast stating that "I have a Coloplast Prosthetic Implant". Name, hospital, surgeon, and other stuff. The back has how to inflate and deflate, and the MRI Conditional stats. One thing for sure, either my surgeon can't spell very well or, if he used a recording device to create the journal, it didn't understand several words or phrases he used...it's full of jumble that doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, I'll wait till the 17th.

The ID card should have your stickers on it with prosthesis details. If you don't mind my asking what were your measurements distally and proximally?

It's a HIPPA encoded law they have to provide them to you regardless of why you want them.
Became DaveKell 2.0 on July 18th with Dr. Allen Morey in Dallas, TX. AMS 700 CX implant. 18cm with 5.5 RTE's.
