We've our problems is Canada with socialized medicine. Doctors have a ceiling on what they can bill the government who is their only client, so the specialists end up working 6 months and the 6 months in the Caribbean, and that leads to long wait times to see a specialist. Since seeing the doctor is free to the patient and paid a 100% by the government, the family doctor is my mother's and other's favorite destination if they are bored and want to talk to someone. The system is heavily frauded by overseas foreigners for big heart and brain surgeries and the tax payers end up paying for it. To Hugh's point, sex change is considered an urgent surgery and will be put in-front of the line for political correctness sake, while an implant is considered an "elective" procedure and the urologist has to write a "thesis" to a bureaucrat to get approval to get it funded.

Not me,,, because of all the botched procedures I had, it is covered by OHIP, no questions asked. Also, it took me 5 months to get to see Dr. Brock the first time, but after my initial appointment I have got in to see him in as little as 26 hours. :)

This is going to be intersting. Just got an email from GEHA that their president is hosting a chat session today. I have already submitted the question how can they pay for a sex change but not an implant. She will problely blow me off, which will only give me more ammunition for my fight. This may end up as a Congressional Investigation.

Yeah, either blow you off or answer like a politician, which is no answer at all, just creates more questions. :)

Unfortunately, services and supplies related to ED are currently a specific plan exclusion. Benefits are reviewed each year for changes.

However, under the FEHB laws, “no carrier participating in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program may have a general exclusion of services, drugs or supplies related to gender transition or “sex transformations.”

And again I ask, is breast reconstruction after a mastectomy covered? (This would only be mirrored by E.D. caused by surgery like a prostatectomy. My insurance company back in 2002 told me that my implant was only approved for E.D. because it was the result of a physical condition rather than a psychological condition, which they would not cover.)
