I think normal protocol with my surgeon is to start cycling day 8-this is what I was expecting. However, when I went to have my drain removed on day 3, they cycled me and then told me to try myself- which I did successfully. From that day on he told me the sooner I can cycle the better. Didn’t seem like he was saying I absolutely had to, but he strongly recommended it so the reservoir could expand, and also so my dick could start expanding and working out any kinks.
Very odd how some docs have people wait a month, while others like EID and Hakky say day 3. Very different approaches, and oddly enough they both seem successful. In my completely uneducated opinion, it makes sense to me to cycle earlier to prevent the reservoir capsule from being able to fully expand. From what I read that can happen very quickly due to the body creating a shell or whatever around it. At the end of the day I’d ask your surgeon. There’s probably a lot more to it than I realize and they may have a valid reason for waiting. But if EID and Hakky, some of the best in the world, do early cycling, there’s gotta be good logic behind it.
Ah, I am relieved to hear that your doctor saw you and approved for you to begin cycling. The wide variation of some of these milestones is somewhat troubling, as it seems as if every doctor is on their own. There ought to be real research to guide them, and enough of these are done that there must be enough data to be collected. Perhaps a limiting factor is that no doctor wants to be found to have recommended a sub-optimal approach.
Dr. Mills' instructions are that activation is normally done at four weeks, which is the usual time for the second follow-up appointment. Due to the holidays, my second follow-up will be 5 weeks. The doctor said that depending upon their evaluation at two weeks, he might do the activation then, and of course that is when I could begin cycling. I will press for doing it in two weeks, as I would be concerned about waiting for five weeks, although some surgeons wait six weeks.
