HIV prevention: Truvada, Descovy, my experience

Postby Flavio » Wed May 19, 2021 3:13 pm

This is not exactly about ED and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post this, but here it goes.

I recently found out about Prep (Truvada, Descovy) and I am fascinated with these new HIV prevention drugs.

Back in the day, condoms and abstinence were our best options; today, these FDA-approved drugs can guarantee +90% efficacy!

I'm still sexually active and a bit of a hypochondriac, so I've started taking generic Descovy. I take 1 pill x day, no side effects so far.

Does anyone have any experience with these drugs? Needless to say, these are prescription drugs and should only be taken under the supervision of your doctor.

Nope, but I have read a number of stories of guys with prostatisis induced ED, PFS, and other means of ED that recovered using Prep. Figure that is right up your alley.

Fascinating stuff, I had no idea.

I'm taking this just as a precaution, better safe than sorry.

A few more notes on Prep:

- It only prevents HIV, not other STIs. Safe sex is essential.

- It does not prevent or treat covid-19.

- As a preventive measure and unless your doctor says otherwise, it should only be taken by HIV- individuals.

These drugs have changed sex and health in the world today! I strongly recommend that anyone who is sexually active in a non-monogamous relationship should be on these drugs.
Also, if anyone is having sex with anyone outside of a totally monogamous relationship, please be sure to get tested for any STD's every six months. The LGBTQ medical centers are in most counties in the USA and they usually have anonymous STD exams and quick HIV tests.

Thanks for this reminder, Flavio!

I was on Truvada for years. It was authorized for use as PrEP in 2012. I didn't go off it until the pandemic hit, and I stopped slutting around. Not sure what you want to know. It was 100% effective for me, and that's with a significant number of random hook ups. It has changed our lives.

I have been taking Truvada for the past two years. Its a one pill daily prophylactic. It does not seem to have any affect on my ED. It neither helps or increases it but it does protect me from HIV. I have to test every three months for everything and then my DR. renews my prescription for another three months. I try to have multiple female sexual partners and feel it keeps me very safe. I also take Aciclovir as a prophylactic to prevent herpes, it is somewhat controversial if it actually works as a prophylactic for herpes and was not easy to get my Dr. to prescribe it for me but I take it as a prophylactic and have not had herpes despite trying to have multiple female partners each month.

This is very interesting. I’ve been considering taking the HPV vaccine even though I’m in my mid 30s.

Where did you read these stories? I'm not able to find any info about truvada helping with PFS.
44, ED problems began around age 28 when I was on finasteride for hair loss, and also got circumcised so I lost a lot of sensation. Pills gave me bad headaches and other side effects. Now using trimix 30/1/20. So far so good.
