Made the decision...seeing Eid

Postby LBC2020 » Mon Aug 03, 2020 8:18 pm

So
I know many of you have used injections abs pills for years and heard

I really don’t have interest in tnat
I don’t want to waste my best years

It’s entirely too stressful and makes me so depressed thinking about timing sex w pillls or injections....I actually think the best options is to just get the implant it’s already been like ten years of waning erections

There is only one sure so lotion that gives erections every time so I can actually approach my wife ...I have been unable
Or unwilling to have sex for 8 months...it’s been long enough I’m trying to get surgery at this point ASAP

What kind of healing time will be needed
Can I go alone or
Do I need
To bring someone?
How
Long after can I confidently
Have sex and use it

Nothing dispels depression and despair like knowledge. I encourage you to take some time to read through a couple years of past posts. You will gain a HUGE amount of knowledge (and encouragement) over a very short amount of time. When I first found FrankTalk, I spend a couple weekends just looking at thread titles and reading ones that piqued my interest. It was time well spent.

I encourage you to get your wife on board with the concept. Women are incredibly supportive if they feel heard, included, respected and safe. Not to mention loved. You are BOTH having this surgery.

I, after three decades of increasing E.D. finally told my doctor and got the pills. They worked very well for several years. Then, when they lost effectiveness, the option of using constriction rings (with or without a Vacuum Erection Device (V.E.D.)) was available (my erections were strong enough, but only lasted seconds before venous leakage took them down) as well as injections. But I opted out of those. I was able to convince my primary care physician to authorize an implant. If pills work for you, I would recommend trying them out. The companies that make implants are constantly (albeit slowly) making improvements and a year from now a better one may be offered. It also gives you time to get your wife on board and arrange any financing you may need.

Having said that, if it is the appropriate time, there is no reason to delay.

"If it is the appropriate time" has a great weight to it. An implant will render you completely impotent. Whatever erectile function you have now will be gone forever, replaced by a (reliable, it has to be said, 100% reliable and enduring) a prosthetic. Just as a man with a damaged foot who can limp along with difficulty, but not run or jump might opt for amputation and a prosthetic foot that enables walking, running etc but if the prosthetic foot breaks, he is in a wheelchair. So it is with penile implants. Not to be taken lightly.

But if it is time, it is time.

Dr, Eid is a wonderful surgeon and a humanitarian man. I have corresponded with him and found him to be caring, kind and generous. He will thoroughly answer all your questions. Having said that, prepare your questions well. Reading up on prior posts will give you the perspective to ask the right questions and to understand the answers MUCH better than if you did not prepare yourself in that way.

Just my recommendations. Some people put themselves in the hands of their medical team and don't want to know how things get done or why. Others like to make themselves an integral part of their medical care team and deeply involved in the decision-making process. I do not fault either choice. I am firmly in the latter group.

Good luck. My prayers are with you and your wife.

There is a chance, albeit a very slim chance. That some surgeons might decline to operate if they feel that a patient is too depressed to be a good canidate for surgery & recovery. Most doctors don't want to deal with a depressed patient during the recovery process. Lots of stresses happen during the healing process. Lots of worries & second thoughts can race through your mind.
I would reccomend working on your depression prior to corrosponding or meeting with your surgeon. It might actually speed up the surgery process. Best of luck to you.

Have you considered doing a telephone (or video) consultation with Dr Eid? He can answer all your questions and more. Consultation fee was $300 IIRC, and was well worth it. Kramer offered a similar telephone consult and I think it was free of charge. I recommend doing both, and maybe another consultation with a local surgeon. The more you learn the more confident you will feel going forward with the implant.

Yes, you can travel and do the procedure alone, I did. Usually the implant can be activated on day 4 after surgery with Eid, stitches come out on day 14, and sex could be possible in 4-6 weeks depending on how you heal.

Have you talked to the airlines? There is a class NY to LAX that is more comfortable than coach. Cheaper than first class. I think it was American air lines. I was planning on that return flight before I met the doctors at USC/Keck.

Okay, so you're further along in your planning than I thought.

Plan for one trip, 5-6 nights in total:

Fly into EWR, stay at Bentley Hotel by Eid's office.

Tue: Arrival & hotel check in
Wed: Pre-Op Consult 9a
Thur: lay-over day required by some insurance and Medicare, otherwise unnecessary
Fri: Surgery 6a -12 noon, back to hotel. Medical escorted required for discharge if solo.
Sat-Sun: stay in bed with ice
Mon: Post-op Consult 9a, catheter removal, implant activation, and discharge to travel. Fly home in the PM.

I think he does surgery two days a week, so your schedule could be different.
I delayed the catheter removal and activation until I got home since it's more comfortable to travel with the catheter in.

Does he require a Covid test 2 days prior? Like most surgeries today.
