Strange, Mysterious ED Phenomenon.. Need Help!

Postby kinggg » Mon Apr 06, 2020 12:12 am

My ED is very strange and I hope someone here can help me with it. Upon waking from sleep in the mornings, I get a hard on. But as crazy as this sounds, I hear a pop inside my brain and immediately whatever erection I’m trying to build up deflates. When that happens, I lose any relaxation or amount of sleep needed to help me go back to sleep and of course to get another erection. I can’t explain this mystery. I've never experienced this before. But its killing me and I need your feedback as to what this is all about.

I don’t know if this is neurologic or hormonal. I do however have low T below 300. But I’d like to know what direction to take to find out what I can do about this. I'd like your thoughts as to what you think this is all about. Looking forward to your help!

Sounds like you need to see a doctor who is willing to do a number of tests.
As you are experiencing a lowish T level, erectile difficulties and peculiarities in the head, checking for a prolactinoma would be prudent. Most likely not this, but good to make sure.
Blood tests such as Total T, free T, LH and FSH, prolactin and thyroid hormones.

The popping sound in your head is an odd one. Perhaps check this condition out as it does seem to occur during waking and sleep onset:

Age 57, ED issues for 15-20 years. Testosterone replacement with Enanthate and Ovidrel. Currently using generic Tadalafil 2.5mgs and Resveratrol daily.

Hi slimbarn,

Appreciate the follow up! Yes I will do my best to get the hormonal tests you mentioned as soon as the outbreak is over since my uro's clinic is closed until the virus passes.

My PCP said it could be a pituitary adenoma that may be causing my ED. Could this pituitary adenoma and prolactinoma be the similar conditions? They do sure sound like they produce the same issue.

I will ask my uro about this exploding head syndrome. Just to let you know, I'll be seeing uro, endo and neuro docs. But the only thing stopping that to happen is the outbreak which has rendered most clinics temporarily shut down.

Slimbarn, I really want to thank you for providing me your time and concern which I hugely appreciate. If you have any other input to add please let me know also! Thank you!!!

Yes, prolactinoma is a pituitary adenoma. If your pituitary constantly secretes too much prolactin as a result of a tumor, you will find it very hard to get or maintain an erection, plus your sex drive may also be affected. In normal conditions, when a male has an orgasm, there is a natural surge in prolactin straight after ejaculation. This surge of prolactin is one of the main things that cause the refractory period, which inhibits erectile function. Some males are affected by this for longer periods, some only for a very short period. Age has much to do with this.

Hi Simbarn,

As weird as this sounds, I really hope I do have cancer which may explain this drop in libido. Since exhausting all my options I'm counting that this is the culprit. Cant take it anymore.

Question for you.. would pituitary adenoma also cause sleep issues? Ever since experiencing the onslaught of low libido I've also been experiencing these sleep disturbances that interfere with my morning wood and libido. Is there a strong link between the two? There must be.

Looking forward to your reply, Slim!

I had low T due to pituitary not putting out luteinizing hormone, in turn due to hypothalamus not putting out another hormone. Synthetic T solved the problem; using it for many years and full libido back. Endocrinologist can do blood tests and make a complete diagnosis. Hang on 'till Chinese bug burns out!
Age 78 in 2023. On testosterone replacement due to hypothalamus malfunction. (Attention depressed guys: low testosterone is a cause.) Healthy health nut but ED due to getting old. Like to keep enough cardiovascular ability to thrust for 30 min.

These are usually benign tumors, so not very serious. I am not aware of sleep issues with this, do a search and see what you can find. Your doctor will know.
I am sure they will find the cause with correct testing.

Hey slim,

Last question. Over the years I've been less sleepy with less amounts of sleep and less tired, but more energetic and awake which is NOT good. Along with this is 0 erections and little libido (during the day) except for morning wood. Obviously, libido and sleepiness are intertwined and I feel in my case at least that I've noticed better quality erections with deeper and longer sleep.

That said, do you know if neurons or other brain activity are responsible for these 2 factors (sleep and libido) to work in order to achieve erections? If so, what meds or procedures do you know of that can help me?

I dont mean to sound repetitive. I'm just trying to cover all the nooks and crannies of my problem.

This discussion so far has been about all sorts of rather exotic medical issues. I know nothing about all that and agree that at least one medical specialist may be required to resolve those questions.

However, I have no small amount of experience dealing with erectile issues and I'm going to offer a couple of thoughts based on that experience. I don't believe you have mentioned your age or over physical shape, so I'm flying a little blind here. Nevertheless, here ya go.

After my BIG heart valve surgery over 12 years ago, I took my fat ass to the gym upon the advice of every one of my doctors. I was overweight, my blood sugar was up, and my T-level was way down (below 300) even for an old fart like me (then age 58). It took 8 or nine months, but I lost 60 pounds, (probably lost 80 pounds of fat, but added back approx 20 pounds of muscle). Mind, you, I was not ready for a photo shoot, but I was more fit than I had been in 10 or 15 years. As a result of proper eating and plenty of exercise, my T-level rose to 650 and all the rest of my blood chemistry was right on target for my age and for someone with Type II Diabetes.

The point is that perhaps you might want to take some time to "get fit", whatever that may mean for your current situation. I'd sure give it shot before contemplating surgery.

All the best.
Born 1948, wed 1969. BPH & Type II Diabetes at age 35. TURP-2002; ED even before that--diabetes. Cardiac valve surgery: 2007 & 2019. Poor results with pills. Started trimix injections in Nov, 2010. Great results from the very beginning.
