Erection killers

Postby Flavio » Tue Feb 04, 2020 12:39 pm

I'd like to do a list of erection killers. There are so many drugs, substances and habits that can totally implode your erectile function and we don't even know it. Please contribute to the list and be as specific as you can.

I've had the flu recently, took tons of medication and my erections were completely gone. Now that the flu is gone, my erections are excellent again.

Adrenaline, ibuprofen and caffeine are major erections killers and should be on the top of this list. A cup of coffee may give you energy but it's not something you want to take before sex. Smoking is terrible for your sexual function, too.

Diuretics and high blood pressure drugs:

Hydrochlorothiazide (Esidrix, HydroDIURIL, Hydropres, Inderide, Moduretic, Oretic, Lotensin)
Chlorthalidone (Hygroton)
Triamterene (Maxide, Dyazide)
Furosemide (Lasix)
Bumetanide (Bumex)
Guanfacine (Tenex)
Methyldopa (Aldomet)
Clonidine (Catapres)
Verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, Verelan)
Nifedipine (Adalat, Procardia)
Hydralazine (Apresoline)
Captopril (Capoten)
Enalapril (Vasotec)
Metoprolol (Lopressor)
Propranolol (Inderal)
Labetalol (Normodyne)
Atenolol (Tenormin)
Phenoxybenzamine (Dibenzyline)
Spironolactone (Aldactone)

Antidepressants, anti-anxiety drugs, and antiepileptic drugs:

Fluoxetine (Prozac)
Tranylcypromine (Parnate)
Sertraline (Zoloft)
Isocarboxazid (Marplan)
Amitriptyline (Elavil)
Amoxipine (Asendin)
Clomipramine (Anafranil)
Desipramine (Norpramin)
Nortriptyline (Pamelor)
Phenelzine (Nardil)
Buspirone (Buspar)
Chlordiazepoxide (Librium)
Clorazepate (Tranxene)
Diazepam (Valium)
Doxepin (Sinequan)
Imipramine (Tofranil)
Lorazepam (Ativan)
Oxazepam (Serax)
Phenytoin (Dilantin)

Antihistamines:

Dimehydrinate (Dramamine)
Diphenhydramine (Benadryl)
Hydroxyzine (Vistaril)
Meclizine (Antivert)
Promethazine (Phenergan)

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs:

Naproxen (Anaprox, Naprelan, Naprosyn)
Indomethacin (Indocin)

Parkinson's disease medications:

Biperiden (Akineton)
Benztropine (Cogentin)
Trihexyphenidyl (Artane)
Procyclidine (Kemadrin)
Bromocriptine (Parlodel)
Levodopa (Sinemet)

Antiarrythmics:

Disopyramide (Norpace)

Histamine H2-receptor antagonists:

Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Nizatidine (Axid)
Ranitidine (Zantac)

Muscle relaxants:

Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril)
Orphenadrine (Norflex)

Prostate cancer medications:

Flutamide (Eulexin)
Leuprolide (Lupron)

Chemotherapy drugs:

Busulfan (Myleran)
Cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan)

Nice list, thanks for taking the time!
39 years old, married. ED all my life because of spinal cord injury caused by a tumor in early infant age. Using standard EDEX20 since 2007. Increasingly bad results with EDEX in the last few years, but had very good results for at least 10 years.

Why should Aspirin be at the top of the list. It is a blood thinner and promotes blood flow. When I first started developing ED, it actually helped with erections.

On the top of the list, at least for me, should be alcohol. Great for breaking the ice but terrible for the crescendo

I would guess that, as a blood thinner, it enables easier outflow for those afflicted with venous leak. While it seems to have promoted better inflow to your penis than in promoted outflow, I would (again) guess that 1) either you did not have VL as a cause of your ED, or that your inflow was helped more than your outflow.

Just speculating.

Caffeine and many other foods/drinks can make your semen taste bad, too. Not an erection killer, but certainly not helping create an enjoyable sexual experience for all.

I honestly don't know but there are studies that seem to confirm it. Everyone is different though and reactions vary greatly: several alpha blockers are listed as both ED treatments and causes by different sources.

Anyway, I'll remove aspirine from the original post.

Studies I just looked up swing both ways.

Anyhow, I recall the Dear Abby (or Ann Landers) once suggested an aspirin tablet as an effective birth control pill.....Held firmly between the knees.

Made it hard to dance, though.
