Any theories as to why some implants take way more pumps than others ?

In terms of "speed and efficiency" that sounds like a bad thing if penis size does not increase in concert with more pumps. (did it ?? ;) ) 5 pumps and I'm almost pre ED size/hardness even at 6 weeks out.... I still am mystified why such a wide divergence of pump numbers amongst the implant brotherhood .... :?

Wow.... that is so odd as I have the same specs except my girth is a little less at 4.3”. Same AMS 700 LGX ... I doubt I could go beyond 10 pumps without blowing a gasket or burning a valve

After answering today, I deflated completely and pumped it up using full squeezes. At 10 I was still a little too soft. Yes, 5 more full pumps got me to useable. 10 more and the bulb was getting hard. I was in the pain mode hard. last 5 were partial because of hard bulb. rock hard and painful.

I don't think size is that much affected as is hardness. Rigidity. My doc once told me that increasing hardness can increase my staying power, or otherwise desensitize me.

True enough.... guess I was envisioning a single couple new date situation where the guy wanted to get back to the "landing strip" ASAP ;)

It is strange that all of us with implants have such a great variation of the amount of pumps we do. I realize that the size of cylinders & the size of the reservoir makes some difference. I have an AMS 700 LGX that was implanted 6/18/19 and find only the first pump seems to really feel like a full pump. After the 1st pump the remaining pumps do not squeeze in very far, & pump is very hard. I get 1 initial full pump & the remaining 15 to 25 pumps don’t squeeze in very far into the pump. Being I’m only 2 months out, does anyone know if the pump is as soft as it will get, or does it continue to soften up over a longer time frame?
77 yo with ED for over 20 years.Tried everything, & found injections were the only thing that worked.I am so grateful for FT. Was implanted 6/18/19 with a 18cm AMS LGX w 3.0cm RTE,100ml reservoir, infrapubic procedure by Dr. Richard Roach, “Bailey”

Yes it does take about 50 pumps to get is all the way up, pumps are normally completely depressed and takes about 2 minutes. Perhaps it is due to the 21cm cylinders. Who knows? Number of pumps may also depend on internal aspects if the internal structure of the penis, plaque build up, scarring, adhesion, etc. Kind of like Basken and Robins, a little something different for everyone.

I suppose the variables are:

Starting point, i.e. do you start from a completely drained implant or from partially filled?

Cylinder size, length and diameter. Worth remembering is also that a 15 cm implant is double the length of a 10 cm. The fixed part is close to 5 cm on all implants, so a 15 cm cylinder has 10 cm to fill with saline, while a 10 cm only has 5 cm...
And of course, Titans have significantly larger diameters, so they will require more pumps at the same length as an AMS.

Size of the pump itself. If my memory is correct, an AMS pump is larger than a Titan pump. Good when you want to quickly pump your dick up, bad when you want it to be as hard as possible to detect.

Pump power. Huge difference between a full pump and a partial pump. Nowadays I don't do full pumps. I need about 70 pumps to get super hard. And that's not completely full. If I did go for full pumps, I'd probably get around 30 full wall-to-wall pumps and then gradually smaller pumps up till around 50. I do however find that it is faster to do 70 partials than 30 full+20 partials. Takes longer time for the pump to refill when full pumps are used.

Anyway, there is a lot of factors with big impact.

But only the size makes huge impact. Let's compare an 18 cm AMS and a 24 cm Titan.
The AMS will have 13 cm inflatable length, the Titan will have 19 cm.
AMS 18 cm diameter is 16 mm and Titan diameter is 23 mm (according to some old notes I made, not 100% sure what the source is). Radius is 0.8 cm and 1.15 cm.
Volume in two cylinders are:
AMS: 3.14*0.8*0.8*13*2=52 ml.
Titan: 3.14*1.15*1.15*19*2=157ml.

So, the 24 cm Titan will need 3 times as much saline to get full as the 18 cm AMS does. Couple that with potential causes like difference in preferred hardness, different starting point, and we can easily get to 5 times the difference in number of pumps to get "full", which is a subjective measurement. What is full depends on preference, hand strength etc.
43 yo, ED forever from VL
Fit and active
Implanted December 2015
Titan XL 24 cm, no RTEs
Dr. Eid
Activated day 13
Sex after 3 weeks
Gained length and girth
So far It works perfectly
Only one advice: Find a world class surgeon

Yeahbut...comparing two AMS 700 LGX....mine 15cm, another member (Hrc714) 24cm....both 12mm diameter (both 18mm inflated)

15 is 1.6 ratio to 24. (RTE's a moot point for this as we're comparing cylinder volumes)

I take 5 pumps, so... his should take 8 pumps. His actually takes 50 pumps !

--------------------------------------------------

(inversely if his take 50, mine should take 32 ! It's this extreme difference between same make, model and diameter that has me mystified)

I wonder if the wild card in this is the size of the tunica?
If the tunica would only accept maybe 13mm, it would take fewer pumps?
Just trying to make sense of it all.

That sounds right but there was another member who had identical AMS model and size to me with only .2” difference in girth who could go to 25 pumps as I recall.
