The study said that the chance of using implant without any problem after 15 years of surgery was 70 to 65 %.

Can we assume that the chance of using an implant for 20 years without problems is approximately 50%????

On my third Titan in five years, I'd say the chance are pretty slim.....

May I ask why three in such a short period?

My goal would be to wear that sucker out.

I know that is anecdotal and you asked a statistical question, but remember , "All statistics are just compiled anedotes (carefully selected in a controlled maner, of course)."

First was botched... Poor choice of surgeon.. didn't know about FT.... Second "coiled" and the tube pulled out... Third working perfectly.....if I have another failure , I'll seek another implant... can't imagine "Limp Dick Life" anymore....

I see here where some guys are getting replacements much sooner than I am sure they expected to and some who talk about how long their’s has lasted. I think of it like a car. If it is on the road all the time it has parts that wear out. If it sits in the garage where it is protected, it will likely last longer. I realize with a non-implanted penis my doctor says use it or lose it so I am not sure my ananolgy applies, but it seems like especially the pump is going to go sooner if it is used constantly.

I think that the quoted longevity of implants is" 3% failure rate per year" so, at 20 years, you have a 60% chance of failure (40% chance that it still works.

BUT, the data comes from studies that usually ended after fifteen years followup. Many patients die before their implant quit. Many patients needed a revision in the first year. Many implant doctors say that "the more you use it, the sooner it will wear out" which to me means that there is perhaps a "cycle count" (ie, expect 1000 cycles before failure).

HOWEVER, there does not seem to be any good predictor regarding when these fail. Most agree that early failure may be due to a tube kinking issues that might have happened during original surgery. Others say that if there is a repeated trauma (for example horseback riding) that this might lead to sooner failure. MANY state that there is no way to predict.

All implant surgeons will state that "the point of an implant is to use it, so please do not save it if you have an opportunity for sex" and some guys sate that they would not "want to die with a functioning implant" meaning that it is key to use it to the maximum and leave nothing on the table in terms of number of sex encounters.

I am reinvigorating this discussion in response to renewed interest in this topic.

There is no appreciable difference between the life expectancies of the different manufacturers. The AMS silicone cylinders are more fragile than the Bioflex Coloplast cylinders and are the most likely cause of failure of this brand of implant. Failure occurs because of repeated bending of the deflated cylinders at the location of folds and not at the point where the cylinders are connected to the non-inflatable proximal portion.

The Coloplast tubing that connects the cylinders to the pump is the Achilles heel of this penile device brand. The tubing is outsourced and not manufactured in-house, is not as good as the AMS tubing and is prone to fracture after 10 to 15 years of use
