Insurance Woes

Hey Everyone,

Recently I was examined by my local urologist for my ED and Peyronies situation. I'm 54 years old, in fairly good health, exercise daily, but suffer from type 1 diabetes and a sexual related accident that caused my penis to be bent 90 degrees which caused a sever case of peyronies.

My DR. sees no other solution other then a Implant.

Anyway....Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas has denied the surgery. Does anyone here know of any insurance provider or supplemental insurance that I could purchase that covers implant surgeries?

BTW, I want to thank everyone on this forum. I have been following F/T for years now and truly appreciate everyone's input.

I think the Dr. needs to make a case and argue for it.

One reason why I am going to Dr. EID. And one thing I hope I don't run into....

I don't suppose your doctor would agree to write a letter to your insurance saying it is MEDICALLY NECESSARY? If not, Manulife has "Flexcare" which people can purchase to cover this, but not that. After the surgery, cancel it.

After three weeks of lurking here, posting a few times, and receiving nothing but encouragement from you all, I set October 29 as my surgery day.

However, I received notification from my doc's office this afternoon that our insurance has excluded this procedure in our coverage. I suppose I should state that my employer has excluded this procedure. The doc's office used "medically necessary" language due to the removal of my cancerous prostate last year, but the insurance company wouldn't budge.

Without insurance, there's no way we can afford this implant. We're changing insurers in January, so perhaps I'll have a different outcome.

I'm frustrated and discouraged, to put it mildly.

There is something wrong. I think there was a court ruling on men that had prostratetomy. If woman can get a boob job after cancer surgery, which is covered by all policies. You may want to dig a little deeper in to that.

BTW Blue Cross Blue Shield paid for all of mine but a small co-pay. Your search should find what I have written on how I got a BCBS approval.
